The face is carved with fine detail and is painted with red pigment over gesso with black eyebrows. It is important to note that this mask is complete with intact ears, which is rare to find. A nice wooden mummy mask of a smaller size, probably late period, mid-late 1st. millenium BC.

Condition: Intact with smaller losses and much wear. Remnants of pigments still visible on the surface in recesses.

This is an incredible Cougar Mountain found in Oregon. It is made from beautiful tranlucent orange agate. It is 8 1/2" long. Dates to 10,000 BP. Perfect condition. Great provenance. Fine example of a Jomon Period (13,000-300BC) Dogu, the earliest known Japanese figure. This figure was purchased at a Parke Bernet auction by a renowned author on and collector of Asian art. The Dogu acted as effigies of people. They manifested some kind of sympathetic magic. For example, it may have been believed that illnesses could be transferred into the Dogu, then destroyed, clearing the illness, or any other misfortune. Because of the ritual destruction of Dogu, they are quite rare...
