19th century Chinese incense stick holder made out of rootwood in a shape of a buffalo with the front of its body turned to the right. Very clever piece with minimal carving beautifully capturing the essence of the animal, graceful flow to the natural lines of the root. Beautiful mellow patina, very pleasant feel of age to the piece. Metal fitting on the back to hold an incense stick. Excellent item for a scholar’s desk or an altar. Height with metal fixture 5 5/8 inches.

A Qajar sherbet spoon carved from light, varnished wood, made in two parts with a long rhomboid handle joined to the boat-shaped bowl-section by a slot.
