Condition: both lids with few tiny casting holes, the box interior with some rust, both items with traces of usage. Circa 1830-40, English flow blue octagonal ironstone serving platter. The deep dark blue and the flow is as good as it gets. Made by P W and Co.. in Manilla pattern, it measures 16" x 12". Appears never to have been used, excellent condition.

Edwardian Classical sterling silver trinket box. Made by Howard & Co. in New York in 1901. Oval with straight sides and flat hinged cover. Leafing scrollwork applied to sides and cover top, which also has centrally mounted cherub’s head. Reeded rims with applied leaf border. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, year, and no. 1465. Very good condition.

Late Meiji - early Taisho (1910s) Japanese pottery Bizen ware chaire (tea caddy for storing powdered green tea used in tea ceremony). Wonderful potting, buff color clay with beautiful orange streaks, pleasant patina, impressed mark of the potter on the bottom. Later turned dark hardwood lid lined with gold paper on the inside. Comes with very well made shifuku (silk brocade storage bag). Great piece in excellent condition. Height with cover 3 1/8 inches, maximum body diameter 2 3/16 inches.

In remarkable original condition, the gold lacquer decor represents the culmination of techniques for using gold leaf, gyobu nashiji, kirikane, kinji for a decor that continues from the inside of the room. door to the other door in continuity on the drawers. Originally for storage of tea ceremony utensils or cosmetics as gifts from wealthy aristocrats. Original lacquered box with inscription. Meiji period late 19th century. Dimensions: L14,5 x 10 x H11,5 cm.
