19th century marine material netsuke with engraved decoration of a crane taking off by pine saplings and mist. Very nice quality work, beautiful patina, characteristic marine sheen to the surface. Central peg with a horizontal hole in its back part serves as himotoshi. Length 2 3/16 inches.

Unusual 19th century lacquer ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) of seed shape with faceted surface showing variously colored layers of lacquer from which the piece was built. Wonderful design piece, metal liner, in great condition. Height 0.67 inches.

Pair of Small Blue and White Ko Sometsuke Dishes. Decorated in the centre with two birds and branches, the rim with butterflies. Chinese Tianqi C1621/27. Diameter 14.6 cm. Condition: very good, some fritting to rims, chip 1.5 cm to inside footrim of second dish. No other chips, cracks or restoration.

Chinese antique carved jade vase, rectangular form carved all over with archaic motifs of twisting chimera, jade has nice green color with dark green striations, traces of gold paint on one side, 18th/19th century. Size: 7 3/4" high x 4 3/8" wide x 2 1/2" deep.

This early 20th century Chinese carved jadeite lady is 4 ¾” high, 1 ½” wide and 1 ¼” thick. It depicts a lady holding a silk box containing several volumes of books. The natural grain of the stone is apparent. It is in great condition.

A pair of masks representing the two variations of Tengu, the long nosed Tengu and the Karasu (Crow) Tengu mounted on a wooden placard dating from the Meiji period. Each mask is of carved and lacquered wood with inset glass eyes. The placard is 38cm (15 inches) wide 22.5 cm (9 inches) tall and the masks are roughly 11 cm (4 inches plus) in depth. It looks as if the Karasu Tengu mask has had the eyes repaired, and they appear cloudy by comparison to those of the the long nosed partner...

Chinese Han Dynasty Incised & Burnished Pottery Cocoon Jar

This wonderfully-shaped pottery jar was made during the early part of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8), or possibly the preceding Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). This type of jar is usually referred to as a "cocoon jar" due to the shape of its body. Its original function was that of a grain storage jar. This particular example has a wide foot, neck and mouth compared to the size of its body...

Antique Japanese fubako, box for holding letters. Made of lacquered wood with a design of young pine and blossoming plum branches. Both box and lid are decorated in maki-e gold and silver lacquer over a delicate nashiji on a black lacquer ground. The interior has clouds of dense gold nashiji and two mon on the underside of the lid.

This porcelain platter was produced in France by Haviland & Co Limoges around 1900. The platter has both an underglaze and printed mark from the factory. The diameter of the platter is 12 3/4 inches. It has a beaded gold border. The transfer decoration of large pink roses is set in a burgundy ground. There is ornate gilding accenting the border. This platter is beautiful to display and wonderful to serve with at your table. Condition: Excellent

19th century Chinese scholar’s brush rest in a shape of a wooden branch with richly textured surface resembling numerous swirling clouds. Very beautiful brown finish, wonderful patina, very pleasant to touch and to hold. Excellent piece in scholar’s taste - one of the most attractive scholar’s objects that I ever had. Length 7 5/8 inches.

Japanese Meiji period woodblock print triptych by Utagawa Kokunimasa (1874-1944), aka Ryua, titled “The battle between Japan and Russia at Seoul” depicting troops landing on the Korean peninsula at the start of the Russo-Japanese War. The print was published by Fukuda Hatsujiro and is dated in the cartouche at the lower left 2/1904. Signed at the lower right "Ryua" and with the artist's red "Edokko" seal below. Here he is depicted gazing upward toward heaven, arms outstretched, wearing his Dominican robe embroidered in gold with a long painted rosary dangling past his waist. His white undergarment is richly painted with flowers and gold leafy tendrils. Carved in full round, his head is set with glass eyes and he retains a good amount of the original paint...
