Antique Japanese shinto shrine mirror. The mirror has a central motif of a turtle meeting the beaks of two cranes. Three baby cranes and a small turtle walk along the beach. The three auspicious symbols of pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms invoke the island of longevity, horaisan. There is an inscription to ward off calamities. This mirror would have been placed on a wooden stand at the entrance to a shinto shrine for the visitor to see their reflection as they entered. Edo period, (c1800)...

An antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand made iron fittings including the Warabite handles and finish. The front has a natural Kirinoki wood finish while the case was finished in a wiped Urushi lacquer technique. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Simple elegance envelops this wonderful late Meiji Period C.1910 bronze 'koro' crane incense burner. The piece has two parts; the top consisting of the crane's feathers and head, and the bottom which contains the ash. On the underside of the bottom in relief are the crane's legs tucked under.
