Fine Late 19th Century Bunraku Puppet of a Sambaso Dancer. This rare Bunraku puppet is operated by three Puppet Masters, who make it come to life to present a magical theatrical experience. He is carved of wood and covered with Gofun. He wears a beautiful Robin egg blue and Saffron orange robes. His head is adorned with a silver and black hat featuring a rising sun. He is holding bells and a fan. 24.5 inches, 62cm.

Fine early example of a Jomon Period Dogu Clay Figure, the earliest known Japanese figures. The Dogu acted as effigies of people. They manifested some kind of sympathetic magic. For example, it may have been believed that illnesses could be transferred into the Dogu, and then destroyed, clearing the illness, or any other misfortune. Late Edo Period Musha Ningyo of Ushiwaka- maru, a brave boy who grew up to be the great warrior Minamoto Yoshitsune. This is a Ningyo of the finest quality. Extremely Rare Edo Period Isho Ningyo Pulling a Wagon with a Crane. Early 18th Century Ningyo like this very rarely come up for sale. This Isho Ningyo is special, as it resembles a Karakui (mechanical) Ningyo. This important Ningyo has a classic face with painted features, sumptuous embroidered textiles, and is pulling a cart that has a crane inside. It stands on a lacquered base. A similar example is in the Homa Museum in Japan. 14.5h x 9.5w inches, 37h x 24w cm.

Pair of Inari Foxes of sculptured and fired clay with luminescent powered white glaze. In traditional Japanese art, a pair of foxes typically flank the deity Inari’s shrine image. But in modern times, images of Inari have all but disappeared, replaced instead by images of Oinari’s messenger, the magical shape-shifting fox (kitsune 狐). Here the symbolism is two-fold. A decorative fragment taken from the cuffs (horse-hoof shape) of a summer silk dragon robe with five clawed front facing dragons (couched pure silver wrapped threads) on a fish net like gauze weave. Each dragons appears to be wearing headdress. The cuffs from each sleeve are sewn together in the center and the borders are silver brocades. Circa, first half of 19th century. Approx. 19" x 15 1/4"

Large Chinese basket, tall stacking carrying basket, made of bamboo with iron handle, three compartments, outfitted with removable glass top so that it may be used as an end table or stand, the basket has a large character on the top and woven patterns on all sides, the tiered basket sits in a large bamboo frame with handle, Republic Period. Size: 37" high total (30 1/4" high to top of stand) x 18 1/2" wide x 18 1/2" deep.

A finely decorated blue and white bowl, painted in Kangxi/Yongzheng style depicting numerous (mostly zodiac) animals in an imaginary dreamlike landscape. The four character mark on the base reads "precious object copying antiques" and this item was probably made during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition - there is a restored rim chip (top left - enlargement 12) and two restored hairlines. There is also a glaze bubble and two small rim chips (enlargement 10)...

A finely carved white jade pendant probably made in China in the 18th Century during the reign of the Qianlong emperor. Condition - half of one of the loops is missing (please see enlargements ) - no further damages and no repairs...

A Very Fine High Relief Carved White Water Dropper: Korea, Choson period, late 18th -early 19th Century, This is a very fine white glazed square formed porcelain water dropper carved in high relief with a plum spray on the top, and it is set on raised feet. It is covered with warm and milky white glaze overall evenly. It is in fine condition except one tiny water spout repaired.. Measures 1 ½” h.. x 2 ½”x2 ½”.
