Lid is carved with a scene of two elderly sages in a rocky landscape with trees and a bridge. The sides are carved overall with a diamond pattern. The interior and base are lacquered black. Some minor age cracks and retouched chips to the interior rim, minor retouching of red lacquer to the rims of the lid and box bottom. General wear—all consistent with and indicative of its age.

Ca. early 1800s

Glazed overall with a blue-tinged clear glaze with underglaze iron oxide coloring the peach and portions of the monkey. The base is unglazed. Molded with a large opening for brushes and two smaller apertures for holding flower stems. Very good condition, minor wear but no damage or repairs.

Large flatten-formed snuff bottle carved from translucent agate having various smoke-like inclusions ranging from dark brown to a light brownish-ochre. The two narrow sides are carved with a stylish mask motif with a pendant handle. A low, shallow carved foot forms the base. The stopper is a large cabochon of aventurine quartz. Few very small chips to the mouth edge from use and wear, otherwise very good condition.

A very rare German mixed color twist of soda glass. Bell bowl with a solid base over a stem containing a white opaque twist multi-ply corkscrew surrounding a ruby thread, the whole with an entwined single air thread. 6 1/8 inches tall, 2 3/8 inch bowl diameter, 2 3/4 inch foot diameter.

Mixed twist glasses are as rare as color twist glasses, and the combination of both is an extremely uncommon and desirable construction.

Statue of crowned Buddha, in royal attire, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a tall throne. A hole at the top of the crown suggests the presence originally of a finial, now gone, while a hole at the back means that the statue was held firmly in a niche via a tenon.
