Truly a rare Hector Aguilar necklace which is a published design in Silver Masters of Mexico by Penny Morrill. Lovely on with a height of .75in. and a length of 15.5in. Construction is repousse giving it depth and dimension. Definitely a go to piece with a presence for commanding the board room. No damage of any kind. Made with Agular quality and a weight of 68 grams. It exhibits a very dark, natural patina amd I have left it as it came to me for the buyer to make their own...

Big, beautifully crafted and early as is indicated by the low design number this Deco Los Castillo silver brooch is wrought en repoussage in what seems to have been a favored motif among Mexican silversmiths and designers at the time. Fern leaves inspired rings, clamper bracelets, brooches and necklaces and of course, earrings. The design comes in variations enough to ensure that everybody will find a piece that appeals to them. The specific version, however, I have never encountered before...

This Matl is halmarked for when Matilde Poulat was designing in her shop. The drop is 3.25 in. tall and 3 1/8th inches across. The chickies have rounded puffy bellies and are nicely carved. There is no damage to silver or stones. I categorize the size of this well done Matl as a medium size. There are 2 larger lead off links that are identical as the rest of the chain. The clasp is also jeweled ending the design with a well balanced appearance. The weight is 72 grams...

One of the most interesting - and few - female figures of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Doris Smith Chamberlin was a Texas-born American who decided to move to Mexico in the 1940s to open her own workshop after having completed post-graduate studies in art and having taught woodworking, textile-making and silver-smithing for a few years in California (I am grateful to Decotini for the information)...

A terrific abstract mid-century modern sterling bracelet by Taxco silversmith Sigi Pineda. It is hinged in the back and pulls open in the front at the horizontal lines, most ingenious! The bezel set aventurine stone is a nice touch. These are the kind of designs for which Sigi is most celebrated. The bracelet is 6 3/4" around in the inside and 1 1/8" wide at the front. It weighs 60 grams.Signed for vintage Sigi Pineda as shown. A really special bracelet from this great designer.

In the last couple of years I found myself drawn closer and closer to the jewelry created by the Los Ballesteros workshop. I am especially attracted to their “mask” pieces in all the forms they can be found as well as to what I like to call their “hinged bangle” bracelets. I consider both kinds the absolute jewel in the taller’s creative crown and it seems that there is always something new and different to discover. The perfectly carved tiger’s eye “Joker” pendant is a piece I h...

I have said many times in the past that I consider the Los Ballesteros workshop Taxco’s foremost creator of the so-called “mask” jewelry. And among their best are their hinged bangle bracelets, a fantastic example of which I am presenting here. The effigy is carved out of tiger’s eye, a stone which creates a magical sensation with its molten gold, glistening caramel and rich chocolate browns. Serene under its heavy, ornate headdress the “face” looks as if in deep sleep, its features ...

This is a signed Hector Aguilar Necklace that is hard to find design. The color is a fascinating white as the silver is almost pure. The link is 1 1/8th inches tall and displays a hand chased crescent moon in each link. The depth of the chasing and cut out crescent give great dimension in your hands and when worn. Strongly held together with rivets and a weight of 136 grams, the work speaks quality. No damage or repairs and a stellar design to wear causal or dress. The silver is soft in the hand...

Biomorphic sterling silver appliques on a highly oxidized "puffy" background take center-stage in this modernist Mexican set of Salvador Teran earrings. I grew up close to the sea so to my eyes, it's little crabs catching a bit of sun on mossy beach pebbles that are pictured here but your mind's eye might see something entirely different. Precious like all Salvador jewelry, beautifully made, not entirely identical as is the case with hand-wrought pieces of wearable art. Bottom-line? Irresistible...

Nice heavy quality sterling silver belt buckle by Taxco silversmith, in the style of Aguilar, though signed with other initials, vintage item, mid 20th century. Measures 2" x 1 1/2". Well designed, the buckle has two beads and applied geometric and curved silver sections, in pre-hispanic designs. Signed on back with circular stamp, Taxco 925 Mexico, with the initials JS in the center. Sometimes workers for major silver smiths in Taxco and Mexico City make items on their own, using the desig...
