One of the most talented Taxco maestros, Francisco Rivera trained in Spratling's Las Delicias and as a mature maestro he created jewelry for Emma Melendez in addition to having his own line. Rivera is one of those artists a collector / lover of vintage Mexican silver does not discover immediately...

Shown in the Gobi Stromberg book "Silver Seduction : The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda", this book-piece design is a superb bracelet from Antonio Pineda. It's an extremely difficult design to produce, and it is most definitely a statement piece.

Composed of nine curved "V" links, each is tipped with two bezel-set turquoise cabochons. It's an unusual piece, and one which is very seldom seen...

Celia Harms known for her work with gemstones has 12 stones on each half of this bracelet. All different colors with most being Mexican fire opals. The height of the bracelet is 2.5 inches and the diameter is 2.75 inches. This is one of her earlier works as it is closed with a barrel and pin. The patina is lovely and there is no damage. It has quite a presence with a weight of 107 grams. This fits like a bangle on the wrist...

The second Erika Hult de Corral bracelet currently in my inventory (please look for item no 1189406 as well), this piece is absolutely fabulous. Quite substantial yet still comfortable to wear, its mod sterling links are studded with green, mossy agates. The bracelet feels divine around the wrist and as rare as Ric bracelets are, the specific design is even more difficult to come upon. With an inner circumference of 6 5/8" (clasped), it is perfect for smaller to medium wrists...

This magnificent piece features 27 colorful, vibrant jelly opals placed intricately between silver balls all framed in graduated sized silver rectangular links. Mid-century mod "peas-in-a-pod" Mexican silver dangle earrings, this set is signed by Sigi Pineda and it's an iconic creation for the renowned Taxco modernist. I think Sigi was at his best when he worked with designs that contrasted niello-ed surfaces with brushed silver pearls. There is nothing classier than the marriage of black and gleaming sterling yet the textured beads add a dimension that enriches the earrings' visual impact...

A pair of leaves made out of sterling silver and inlaid with azur-malachite this set of Salvador Teran earrings remains true to the absolute minimalism that characterizes his jewelry. It never ceases to amaze me how, with just a few pencil strokes, talented designers can impart the freshness of a green leaf, the way it curls to collect the rain, the texture of its serrated edge...

Bangle bracelets, be they hinged or solid, are a big love of mine but I am doubly thrilled to be presenting here a set of three signed by the Los Castillo! How often does one see this form with this signature, truly? Not often enough is the answer and the rarity enhances the innate quality of the pieces...

This showpiece from Margot de Taxco is supremely rare. I've not seen another. It's a necklace which instantly commands attention.

The huge centerpiece can be used as a pendant necklace, or detached from the chain to serve as a pin.

It is a spectacular necklace, with a huge almost Foo Dog design with earrings. The hammered recessed on both the pendant and chain are oxidized, providing a great contrast to the silver.

Pendant/pin measures almost 3 1/2" wide, 2 5...

An extremely rare Antonio Pineda necklace this modernist beauty I am presenting here is wrought in his favorite fine .970 silver alloy, oxidized in the design's recesses and embellished with ten gorgeous, luminous soft white pearls. Cascading from an elaborate knot that forms the necklace's central station, the pearls rest graciously on the collar bone and they look fantastic against a black background. Shown on p. 147 in "Silver Seduction", the official catalogue for Pineda's retrospective exhi...

Demanding and difficult, onix negro (black onyx) is a technique by which the classic art of stone inlay is reversed; instead of setting stone within a silver frame, it is now silver shapes that are placed in a flat piece of black onyx. Devised by the Los Castillo at the beginning of the 1950s, onix negro was practiced by a few other maestros as well with results that are definitely different and can be quite impressive. I believe the bracelet presented here in a modernist interpretation of an an...

One of the few female designers and silversmiths who contributed to Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance that we know about, Carmen Beckmann is reported in the literature to have worked primarily in the 1950s and 1960s in San Miguel de Allende. I am not sure if this is indeed the case, at least in terms of the dates when she was active and I only say this because many of the pieces by her that I have seen bore hallmarks that would indicate a pre-1948 date of crafting. This might be one of the fie...

A huge, beautifully made vintage Mexican sterling articulated fish pendant c1950s-60s. This fabulous 5-3/8" x 1-3/4" pendant is set with inlaid turquoise and it has a turquoise cabochon eye; each vertebra in the skeleton is linked to the next segment with silver loops and each piece bends independently. It has a large bale for hanging and three round holes resembling a fish spine (no turquoise there, nor was there, and the interior of these holes has black patination). This wonderful piece is st...
