A rare and unusual Hopi sterling bracelet handwrought by deceased famous Hopi silversmith Ralph Tawangyaouma, hallmarked "H" and his thundercloud hallmark with emanating streaks of lightening. An early pioneering silversmith, working since 1910, his work is distinctive for his use of heavy gauge silver and stamping both exemplified by this bracelet. Tawangyaouma died in 1972. Navajo Kenneth Begay has been called the "father of modern Navajo jewelry". From 1946-1964, he worked as a benchsmith at the White Hogan Shop in Scottsdale, Az. This elegant, precise bracelet measures 5 1/4" around in the inside plus an additional 1 1/8" opening. It is 3/8" wide and weighs 37 grams. The 2-1/2" x 1-3/8" mirror is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1916 with a C&N maker's mark, for Crisford and Norris. Design 475 has a wearable length of 17 inches plus a bit more which is fashioned from a leaf pattern.
