A set of 12 Kogo incense containers representing the 12 animals of the zodiac by Suwa Sozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden stacking-box. Each is roughly between 2 and 4 inches (5-10 cm). The Inoshishi (wild boar) has a small chip, otherwise all are in superb condition. In twenty years I have never seen a set like this and it certainly belongs in a museum...

A porcelain hat stand painted in the Qianjiang palette with a young lady contemplating a flower twig at the window. Inscribed with calligraphy in black, dated "ji hai" corresponding to 1899 and signed "Gao Xintian". Base with stamped iron red mark "Guangxu". Condition: no repairs and cracks - little wear to painting and gilt rim. Dimension: 27.8 cm high, diameter: 11.6 cm.

Finely engraved small bronze altar of Vishnu with his consorts Shridevi and Bhudevi, cast in five parts. The three gods standing under an arch with a kirthi-mukha at the apex, the base of each figure slotting into the frame. Karnataka / Maharashtra 19th century. From a Swiss lady's private collection. A very rare blue and white large bowl, decorated with four crane medallions within cloud scrolls, encircled with a line of small continuous flowers to rim and classic scrolls to the foot rim, the interior center with a crane flying among flower pattern, surrounded by four branch flower design, underglazed blue 'Fu Gui Jia Zhi' seal mark on the base. Ming dynasty Jiajing period 1522-1566, found at South-Sulawesi several years ago...

 

Two Tibetan bone carvings of dancing Dakinis from a ceremonial bone apron. One Dakini carries a chopper, kapala (skull cup) and a skull scepter; the other holds a kapala in her left hand. Both have large scrolling swirls carved above and below them. The backs have numerous holes for stringing. The bone is probably from a Yak. Period: 18th/19th Century. Size: 16cm & 17cm. W. Both 4cm. Condition: No repairs. cracks or chips.

Japanese Meiji period teardrop form cabinet vase covered in a rich mottled blue glaze over a brown base. The vase bears the impressed mark of Okumura Shozan (1841-1905) on the glazed base. Shozan is perhaps best known for his remarkable copies of Ninsei and Kenzan works. 19th century. 4 1/8" high (5 1/8" on the stand). Stand included. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a tiny pin-head sized area at the foot where the glaze does not cover...

Fine Sung dynasty celadon deep dish or bowl in olive brown glaze. Glaze is silky yet some wear to bottom of the bowl as would be expected. Additionally there is wear to the base rim. In good overall condition. Diameter: 8.50 inches; height: 2 inches.

Red silk with blue borders, embroidered in colored silk and gold thread. The gilded buttons with scenes of figures in a boat. On the back of the buttons a text: ' rich treble gilt' and ' T.W. & W'. Dimensions: h. 89 cm, w. 157 cm (from sleeve to sleeve). Some stains and discoloring but generally in good condition. Ca. Late 19th/early 20th century.

Measuring 2 1/2" high, and 1 3/4'" wide, this lac burgaute snuff bottle is capped with a green stone holding an ivory spoon. With very precise and fine details, the body is decorated with sections of geometric designs of both gold inlay and colored mother of pearl. The central area contains floral and foliate designs, also in gold with mother of pearl pieces of pink, green, and blue. The base has an inlaid mark of gold...

Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This fine example is from Tibet or possibly from Nepal. It is well proportioned and has very nice facial features. Please note the fine engraving on the back of the figure. A wide low chawan tea bowl inscribed with a poem by Otagaki Rengetsu reading “Yo no naka ha tata utatane no shibaraku wo samenu yume ji ni matofu wari nasa. In the world only for the span of a nap yet wandering an inescapable path of dreams…such a mystery. (Translation from Rengetsu.org). It is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter, 1-1/2 inches (4 cm) tall and in fine condition.

A large Japanese sashi netsuke carved from stag antler, depicting the mythical Chinese fisherman Ashinaga with his long legs. The face is carved very expressively and the natural himotoshi (cord hole) is running through his curled hair. Condition: nice patina. Dimension: 17.8 cm long.

A beautifully preserved 16th to 17th century Annan Bronze basin inscribed with the animals of the zodiac which had been used as a prayer bell at a Japanese Buddhist temple. It makes a beautiful ring when struck. It is roughly 12 inches (30 cm) diameter, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall. An exceedingly rare find...

Of very large size (25") and heavy (13 pounds each), these bronze pricket candlesticks are Japanese in origin, late Meiji, and are signed with an etched mark on the bottom of each. They both have a very deep and rich patina, very dark brown, with no abrasions or dents. The top lotus form cups are separate, and slip tightly into the stem of the sticks...

Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.

The seven gods of fortune are depicted in rich gold, vibrant colors and textures on this exceptional set of Kutani Sake Cups from the Kaburagi Studio enclosed in the original compartmentalized wooden box. Each cup is unique, measuring roughly 5.5 cm (2 inches) diameter, 3 cm (1 inch) tall and all are in excellent condition. The Kaburagi studio produced some of the finest wares in Kutani. Founded in 1822, it survives to this day under the same family, now in the 8th generation...

Mother of pearl is inset into the silver powder dusted lattice set between red lacquered pillars forming this art-deco era lacquer vase enclosed in the original signed wooden box by Iwamura Sadao (1912-1944)...

The exterior of the deep rounded sides carved with a band of petals rising from the foot to the flat everted rim, and the interior decorated in the center with two molded fish, covered overall with a glaze of guan type sea-green tone except for the foot rim burnt reddish-brown in the firing 14.5 cm diam. No chips, cracks or hairlines and free from restoration.

Ewer with a straight round body shape with a flat shoulder and set on splayed foot. There opposite shoulder tip of spout and handle. Part of the body is decorated with a flower chrysanthemum. On the shoulder there is a key decoration fret or thunder pattern border. The lower part of the body to the feet decorated with early - type petal lappets and diamond diaper border. Perfect condition, no chips, cracks, or hairlines and free from restorations. Measure 10 cm wide and 9.5 high.
