Japanese plique-a-jour cloisonne enamel vase densely decorated with a bouquet of flowers set against a celadon green background. Chrome rims. Dates from the Occupation period (1945-1960). Measures about 3 3/4"H x 3" diameter. Very good overall condition. There is a faint interior stress crack at the shoulder that cannot be felt (see enlargements 6 and 7). A 17th – 18th century Neko-tora Tiger by Nagasaki school artist Watanabe Shuseki performed with ink and color on paper in yellow bronze silk border with bone rollers. The parchment is aged and gray, giving the sense of a wall painting in some ancient tomb. The scroll is 14 x 63 inches (36.5 x 160 cm). There is some damage to the lower extremities of the paper, and minor cupping. Watanabe Shuseki (1639-1707) lived in Nagasaki and was a proponent of that school trained under Itsunen...

Pair of Chinese yoke back arm chairs. Late 19th century. Shanxi province. Elmwood. Dimensions: 43.5 inches height x 25.25 inches width x 22 inches depth. Seat height is 19.5 inches. Each chair has a back splat with carved figural panels. Condition: repair to break on one arm, replaced glue blocks on undersides of seats, some scuffing to one side stretcher on base. Structurally sound.

Description:

A bronze Shakyamuni buddha was kept in very good condition.
Had been gilt on the surface but just faded, there are only traces left in the pleats.
It was rarely found that the under cover at the bottom was original when tickling sound was heard inside the hollow base.
It hinted that the original devotion items were still kept within after 600 years.

In earlier centuries, large numbers of "holy men" wandered throughout India's cities and countrysides. The Sadhus were respected as Hindu ascetics who had given up family attachments and material possessions often including clothing. Without shoes and wearing only hand hewn sandals they would wander about some silent and some preaching. Miss matched, this is a typical pair of Sadhu's sandals, hand carved and well worn and polished through years of foot contact.

A soapstone seal was well carved to top with a crouching Bixie.
Two Chinese word Qing Sun(Casually Treasuring) was regularly carved on printing side.
Inscriptions were on the side too.
The stone was in warm brownish tint and in greasy feel.

A Zitan cup was carved from one piece of wood block.
Finely carved handle was made to imitate the bamboo stalks.
It was in perfect condition.
There're carving lines on the handle. They were not cracks.

Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) of a samurai titled “Tobacco Pipe” (Kiseru) by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992). The warrior grasps his sword with one hand and holds his smoking pipe with the other. The print is pencil-signed “Y. Mori,” dated ’86, and numbered 11/70. The artist’s red seal is above the signature. The paper measures 15 3/4”V x 19”H. This print is in very good overall condition...

When carefully examined, the shaped body of this antique ceremonial Tibetan snuff container appears to be animal horn. Decorated with silver and bronze fittings, coral, turquoise and agate beads, this snuff bottle or more accurately, snuff container would have been worn suspended from a chain as a costume ornament by a shaman. It was purchased in Kunming from a Tibetan woman who was there selling her family treasures...

Description:

A Longquan cup was rarely found with the original cap.
In light-tinted celadon hue(Fenqin), the ware was reflected with retrospective sheen in the glaze when darken firing effects were yielded on the body clay at the foot ring.
It was in very good condition with some crack lines observed in the cup and some imperfections of the glazing.

This old Chinese needle case would have been worn as an ornament somewhat like a chatelaine. The body of the cicada separates to provide housing for very fine embroidery needles. The silver work is very high quality with pierced work on the upper body of the bug.

A bamboo brush pot was carved in uniquely curved form.
Decorated on one side with craved motifs of peony flowers and poems on the other side, the brush pot was preserved with Zu-huang(bamboo's inner skin) on the smaller sides.
It was in perfect condition when darken patina was earned.

A shallow dish, heavily potted, covered in a beautiful celadon glaze producing the crackles of the Geyao type glaze. The base is glazed while the foot rim is dressed with an iron brown wash and six dot mark. Periode : Qianlong (1736-1795 AD) Diameter : 28 cm. A 19th century Korean mother of pearl inlaid black lacquer mirror chest comprised of two drawers and double hinged top all raised on base with corner bracket feet. The mirror stand missing from within (as is often the case.) Cranes and peaches among clouds in fret border decoration adorns the top, flower decoration on the sides and bamboo decoration on the back. The front with patterned decoration centering bamboo leaf motif on the drawers...

A nice black glaze candle holder, slight thickly potted with handsome figure of the Ram. Five dynasty-Song dynasty probably Southern China kiln in perfect condition and free from any restoration, only aside above the foot with degradation glaze. Long measure: 20.5cm and High maximum: 14cm.

A wonderful ethnographic folk art object, this style of farm animal bell has been used in Thailand for centuries. Hand carved from wood by the herder and tied around the animals neck this traditional bell is hinged (or pegged) in 2 places to allow for a gentle knocking sound. This one was used for a goat and has remnants of the original hand made rope.

From Ibaden, Nigeria this traditional Yoruba cloth was woven by the men of the village. It was worn tied around the waist of the woman, and used as a baby carrier. This piece was brought back from Africa in 1961. Hand loomed of cotton fibers, it has a wonderful soft color and texture. It measures 10" wide and 68" long including fringe.

A beautiful Chinese Cloisonne Tea pot of very large size featuring gilt bronze handle and top with exquisite foo dog images in cloisonne design. In excellent condition measuring approx. 13 tall and 16 inches at its widest point.

A rare example of russet Ding ware Conical form bowl, covered overall with russet-brown glaze. Song dynasty Hebei province Ding ware. The bowl broken into four pieces and re-glued, minor chips to foot rim. Similar pieces published in 'Hare's Fur, Tortoiseshell, and Partridge Feathers' item 14 & 15. Diameter: 14.5cm.

A blue & white dish, decorated with the scene of Great wall, rock, pagoda, five small merchant ships and a large junk ready to sail to South East Asia, cranes among lotus scrolls to cavetto rim. Ming dynasty 16th century Jiajing-Wanli period found on South Sulawesi. Condition with a tiny chip, one firing crack and three short hairline. Diameter: 26.5cm.

A rare found of Longquan celadon small dish, decorated to interior with unusual single fish, exterior with fluted sides. Southern Song dynasty Zhejiang Longquan ware. Condition is perfect, with no chip, no crack and free from restoration, except firing fault to be unglazed to outer rim. Diameter: 13cm.

A very unusual group of tomb figures, depicting three boys holding an zodiac sign. Painted and glazed pottery, the heads detachable. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). H. 25 cm. Condition: only one figure has a minor chip to the neck. No other damages or repairs, very nice old burial condition. Comes with a TL report from Ralf Kotalla in Germany.

Japanese woodblock print triptych of swimming turtles and fish with actor mons and human faces by Yoshu Chikanobu (1838-1912) dated 5th month of Meiji 19 (1886). The convention of disguising portraits of actors arose in the Edo period when bust portraits of actors were banned, through the Tempo Reforms of 1841-1843, for being conspicuous and a detriment to public morality.
