Measuring 5 1/2" square and 8 1/2" high to top of handle, this Tabako Bon, or tobacco box, is lacquer over wood, with brass fittings, round lidded container, and hibachi. The one large drawer contains the lidded brass container and an open compartment behind it, and the other two drawers fit the depth of the case. The hibachi on top may be removed, and locks in when turned, so that the entire piece may be carried by the handle...

Description:

A small Junyao cup was well glazed on the surface.
The thick glaze was rolling down on the outer surface and stopped in half way to reveal the rough-feel body clay.
Obvious circular molding scars were left on the body clay when the foot ring was well shaped and stand in somewhat everted angle.
Crackles and incursions to the glaze were observed for easy verification.
One small splash of purplish tint was yielded in the cavetto...

Large Chinese Neolithic Painted Pottery Jar - Machang (c. 2300 - 2000 BC)

This large and impressive pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. Description: A beautiful inkcake rest was intriguingly made of pudding stone. With agate-like stone quality, this precious scholar item was preserved very well with only some old crack lines and some minor old frets. The stand was an old Suan-Ji wood piece from 19th century. 18th century Chinese bronze Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) Bodhisattva figurine seated in a position of royal ease with a contemplative expression. A shallow dish, heavily potted, covered in a beautiful celadon glaze producing the crackles of the Geyao type glaze. The recessed base is glazed while the foot rim is dressed with an iron brown wash. This carved wooden dragon head and RuYi symbol is from an old Buddhist temple monastery in Inner Mongolia, a region that is now part of China. This piece was probably used to stablize joint between a support post and a rafter beam. Hand carved from teak wood, both sides have the same dragon head at one end and the ruyi form at other end which images as the dragons tail.

The carving is 32 inches long, 3 inches thick and is 9 inches high...

This slender expressive statue represents the right hand of the Buddhist female deity worshiped as Quanyin in China, White Lotus in the US, Tara in Tibet, and Kuan Eim in Thailand, etc. The hand retains much of the original paint remains and is mounted on its own display stand. The hand alone is 14 inches high and including the stand is approx 18 inches high.

Width: 5.0cm, very good condition with nice patina.

Large 19th Century Japanese Gilt Bronze Shishi Play Ball Censer

The shishi is 13 inches tall, and 16 inches in length.

It is in good condition with no repairs, nor chips, except a hairline crack at the tail (did not go all the way through - as seen in the photos). The writing indicated that this was a house warming gift from the Susuki family).
