This is an old Chinese carpentry tool. It was used the same as today's carpenter's "chalk line". The bowl would be filled with powdered charcoal and the string would be pulled through the bowl, and a straight line would be snapped. The string would be rewound by tuning the "crank handle". Older carpenters frequently made their own tool and the carving on this one is very well done, a dragons head floating in a wave pattern. Note the hand made string...very rare...

A large and nice jun yao bowl of sky blue colour. It stands on a short recessed foot rin and then everted upwards towards a slightly straighten side and then towards the rim it folds slightly inwards. There is a slight colour variation between the actual bowl glaze and the photograph taken.

The female immortal "He Xiangu" depicted as a dancer with wafting dress. Cast in bronze with partial gilding. Dating to the 16th or early 17th century. Please refer to a complete set of the "baxian" in the Musee Cernuschi catalogue, Paris: "Bronzes de la Chine imperiale", pages 154-155.
