This is an old Chinese carpentry tool. It was used the same as today's carpenter's "chalk line". The bowl would be filled with powdered charcoal and the string would be pulled through the bowl, and a straight line would be snapped. The string would be rewound by tuning the "crank handle". Older carpenters frequently made their own tool and the carving on this one is very well done, a dragons head floating in a wave pattern. Note the hand made string...very rare...

A square porcelain plaque painted with different greens, overglaze blue, yellow, aubergine and iron red, mounted in a later European wooden frame. Depicting Hua Mulan, a legendary female warrior, who took her aged father's place in the army. Some orange peel, reverse without glaze. Condition: enamel colors with some wear. Dimension: plaque: 22.7 cm x 22.6 cm x 1 cm, with frame: c. 30 cm x 30 cm.

Decorated with a scene depicting phoenix and chrysanthemum , and, around the flattened edge, with concentric waves and interspersed with floral motifs. Width = 28 cm Period : Ming Dynasty, late 16th century.. Condition : professional restoration on one crack (hard to view)

Beautiful purse embroidered on both sides in counted stitch with bats in gold thread among blue clouds. Yellow colored drawstring,tassels and silk lining. Condition: fine. Little patina, yellow silk faded, the blue silk lining with stained area, one end of drawstring is loose. Dimension: 10.8 cm x 6.3 cm x 2 cm, weight: 42 g.

Porcelain covered with green glaze to the foot, glazed base. PERIOD : Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368 AD) MEASUREMENTS: 9 cm wide, 6.5 cm tall. CONDITION: two frittings to the foot and minor restoration to the frittings on the rim.

A Japanese Bronze Water dropper Suiteki in the form of a Turtle, Meiji period c. 1900 measuring 3 1/4 in. L x 2.5 in. W x 1 in. H. in excellent condition nice patina signed.

Decorated with repoussé peonies, the lids engraved with bamboo. The handle of the teapot has two small ivory bands. Made in Hongkong, ca. 1890. Excellent condition. Weight 1032 gr. All three pieces are fully marked.

A large and nice jun yao bowl of sky blue colour. It stands on a short recessed foot rin and then everted upwards towards a slightly straighten side and then towards the rim it folds slightly inwards. There is a slight colour variation between the actual bowl glaze and the photograph taken.

The fly whisk, called a Camera, was used as a symbol of Buddhist enlightenment and power. The monks, sworn not to kill, could whisk away the fly without harming it. Hence, the whisk was carried as a symbol of faith.

This camera has an elegantly shaped wooden handle which is approx 12 inches long. The "whisk" end of the handle is covered with an intricately patterned braiding of silk cording of black, yellow and red...

The female immortal "He Xiangu" depicted as a dancer with wafting dress. Cast in bronze with partial gilding. Dating to the 16th or early 17th century. Please refer to a complete set of the "baxian" in the Musee Cernuschi catalogue, Paris: "Bronzes de la Chine imperiale", pages 154-155. Condition: apparently one foot lost but standing quite firm, please look at pictures carefully, they make part of the condition report. Dimension: 11. 7 cm high, weight: 196 g.
