I am very partial to this early, as evidenced by its design number, Los Castillo necklace because it was the first "big name" Mexican piece I ever acquired year ago. Its intricate knot and bead medallion with the teardrop dangle is so enchanting to look at - the circles and curlicues and spheres seem to be in a constant flux. The same sense of movement is mirrored in the links of the chain as they alternate facing opposite directions - just masterful...

This belt is part of the traditional costume worn by the Hmoung ethic minority group in the mountains of northern Thailand. Every square inch of the belt is intricately embroidered with a series of embroidery techniques including applique, sumack and cross stitches. The belt is decorated the various sized wooden beads probably from China and very old coins from Burma. The belt makes a stunning display and can easily be worn. The size can easily be adjusted by moving the large silver balls...

Tulip Buds 468 was designed by Margot Van Voorhies while married to Antonio Castillo at their Taller Los Castillo. The flow of the leaf around the bud, the heft of the silver giving depth and dimension to each link is exactly why this design 468 is so desired. Built on an angle to see each link at it's best and made strong with rivets hold the repousse together for a test of time. No damage or repairs to either the bracelet or the necklace...

A maker whose work does not come up often but seems to have worked for Spratling at Las Delicias, Lico is distinguished by big size, absolutely powerful repousse pieces and workmanship of the highest quality. I believe the two-part belt buckle presented here supports my claim in the best possible way. Strong sense of movement and depth with the repoussage being boldly pronounced and the unbelievable patina accentuating the design's three-dimensional quality even more...

Very nice size, measuring 2 5/8 wide and 2 1/8" high, good weight. Stamped 980 on back, with Made in Mexico, no maker's mark. Likely Taxco work, and the 980 silver standard was used in earlier works, prior to 1950. The face mask depicts a warrior with headdress, ear spools, and facial adornment, a pre-columbian image often found in Mexican art and jewelry. Has visible tarnish, especially in recessed areas, and shows wear and abrasions to silver surface...

I have only come upon this specific design once in the past - again in the form of a bracelet, that one accompanied by its matching pair of earrings - and have been looking for it since. So here it is, an unusual Deco floral piece, its three-petal links made of thick silver sheet, each one centered by a bezel set turquoise cab. The stones show veining and their color varies from intense turquoise blue to soothing green...

Early, heavy, wrought in fine purity .980 silver the stupendous chain in this pendant necklace is obviously based on Hector Aguilar's "v" link design. Bearing simply a raised mark for Taxco and the metal content hallmark, it is without any doubt comparable to the renowned maestro's original both in heft as well as in level of craftsmanship and quality of materials used. Big and beautifully aged this floral sterling silver Hector Aguilar brooch is representative of the 1940s' love affair with all motifs from nature. The flower is here layered, with deep hand-chased details in the petals and foliage, a strong curving stem and cluster of small beads right at its center. I love the way the bloom is wide open, its face turned to the sun, taking in light and heat and turning it to color, aromas and beauty for our visual enjoyment. Iconic and early since it bears no Eagle mark, a gorgeous Matl ring having a box-type face set with amethyst and turquoise cabs. I love the wirework that always embellishes the silver in this type of rings - as time passes, the nooks and crannies acquire a patina that makes them even more impressive to look at. The ring is a size 7 with its face measuring 7/8" by 3/4". It rises 5/15" off the finger when worn and weighs 7.6 grams. Signed "Matl" in script as well as "Mexico 925" it is in excellent...

This adorable stuffed donkey has the softest mohair fur & a very goofy face. With articulating arms & legs, vinyl pads on the bottoms of his feet & a red vinyl mouth, he is quite an original. There are a few small areas where fur has been loved off along the seams and one ear is loose, but he is very clean & in overall good shape.
