Chinese late Ming (16th/17th century) Zhangzhou (Swatow) porcelain deep charger decorated in iron-red, green, and black overglaze enamels on a cream-colored crackle glaze ground with a central roundel holding flowering peonies. A band containing four floral panels against a crossed line ground extends around the circumference of the rim. 13" diameter x 2 3/4" high. Measuring 9 inches high, these delightful examples of Folk Art styling, represent two of a series of Black cloth character dolls made in Alabama in the 1930’s by unknown craftsmen/women. It has been speculated that their creation was encouraged through FDR’s Depression era program, the Work Projects Administration (WPA), in existence from 1936-1940.

Two silver King's Pattern spoons. We acquired these with a larger set (which we are offering separately) some years ago. We aren't calling these sterling as one is not marked and one has worn marks not easily made out (on the back appears to be a worn head mark and very small initials P and Q flanking a worn device and on the front is an indiscernable mark above the bowl.) This one is a close match to a larger, Georgian set we are also offering at auction but this spoon may be from another count...

A stunning fire patinated bronze vase. The mottled verdigris background in contrast with copper red patinated areas of resist in leaf patterns complete with veining to the leaves and texture to the sustaining twigs. Description:

A crouching Bixie was carved from a pebble of black steatite.
Depicted with protruding eyes, back thrown ears and the broom-like tail, the fairy beast was treated by affluent and sleek carving lines.
An animated form was then vividly rendered. All these were the characteristics for the carvings from Yuan dynasty or earlier periods.
It was kept with very nice patina when some old defects were found. They were caused from the enduring age.
