Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a hou in a central roundel surrounded by a band of peony flowers and scrolling foliage. One of the nine sons of the dragon, the hou has the appearance of a lion and is depicted roaring at the sky. A similar peony band with scrolling foliage encircles the rim on the reverse side. A beautiful Mexican Silver Palomas y Rosas necklace signed by Ricardo Salas Poulat in stamp and engraving is one of the breathtaking designs from the Matl Taller. The repousse is beautifully carved on the tops giving greater detail to the large puffed links. The rose drop is 2 3/4's inches tall and the birds are 1 7/8th's in. at the tallest point. All showing the quality of 108 grams of heavy silver. I find the length of 19in. to hit at the perfect spot on the chest. There is no damage or repair...

This is a traditional sculpture, not a piece for tourists. It's made of hard wood, very intricately carved and has a subtle polychrome.
H. 51 cm. Condition: expected age wear and a few age cracks. Please refer to the detailed pictures. A similar figure is in the collection of the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam.
