A Chinese elongated pear form peachbloom glazed vase with everted rim. An attractive "liver" spot on one side of the vase. The glaze nicely controlled - stopping neatly, inside and outside, evenly above the crisply defined foot rim. At least early 19th century and possibly late 18th century. Excellent condition. Height about 7 3/4 inches (19.69 cm)

 

A rare wooden Buddha in a seated position on a lotus pedestal. The face is serenely contemplative and the robe is carved to show the gathered folds. Wooden Buddhas from this period are very difficult to find. This Buddha has a natural, calming presence.

Period: Yuan/Ming or earlier

Condition: The wood has shrinkage and cracks from age. The right ear and fingers of the left hand are missing...

A superb, handmade, sterling bracelet featuring 4 rows of circular links with hanging tubes that all move by Mexican silversmith Teresa Camino. Her work was represented in the William Spratling Maestro De Plata exhibit and can be found on page 65 of the exhibit catalogue. She was the winner of numerous awards in Mexico and the U.S. before her death in 2003. Her work is still being produced by Albino Guitierrez, her long time silversmith and collaborator...

A striking sterling and center turquoise belt buckle by Navajo silversmith Johnny Mike Begay who worked at the White Hogan Shop in Scottsdale, AZ. and also worked on his own. This beautiful piece measures 3 3/4" by 2 4/8" and is in fine original condition with no chips or cracks to the stone. Weighing 80 grams, it is suitable for a man or women. Signed as shown.

Strong, impressive sterling silver and carved obsidian pendant suspended from heavy original sterling silver chain designed and signed circa 1950 by American and Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling(1900-67). Pendant measures 3" long X 2" wide is in beautiful condition. The volcanic obsidian stone magically reflects it's deep colors and grain as it moves. Pendant signed on the back script WS 925. This hallmark was used after Spratling's Alaskan period for only a year...

Halloween costume consisting of a papermache painted head of the Disney character Goofy, with a pair of adult size (38 X 30) overalls (Dickies brand). Maker is unknown but is very well executed and appears to be from a professional costume shop. Does need some minor stitching to the hat. Great costume just in time for Halloween!

Margot van Voorheis Carr with a design #5551 is one of her large 1.25in. wide masterpieces. It is rare and this one has no damage anywhere. It came to me with a really deep patina and the lucky new owner may adjust to her liking. The weight is 110 grams. The wearable length is 16in. The drop measures 3in. x 1.25in. I have been hunting this one for a very long time! It is collector and museum quality, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!

This Margot de Taxco design #5480 is really a beautiful floral with depth and dimension to the repousse links which leaves behind a gorgeous presence. The drop is 3in. x 1.5in. and the length is 16in. long. The repousse links are hefty at 54 grams. The neck chain links of flowers is .75in. at it's widest point. No dents or damage. A piece for a collector and museum quality, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!

A trained painter and sculptor, Enrique Ledesma became one of the foremost modernist designers in Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance. Many of his pieces were sold through Plateria Cortes and the brooch presented here is just such an example. Generous in size, it combines oxidation and overlay with deep chasing on heavy gauge silver sheet and epitomizes Ledesma's sense of fluidity and abstraction in the best possible way...

A conical Jingasa battle hat 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) high, 14-1/2 inches (37 cm) diameter entirely gilded outside with genuine gold. Inside is lacquered black and retains the tie holds for the liner. There is some writing within, and a maru-ichi crest. There is damage to the peak and edges, but is quite impressive looking, and was likely used by the immediate vanguard of the Daimyo. One of two variations we have, they are from Omi province, just outside of Kyoto in old Japan.

Matilde Poulat's work is highly sought after and especially her oldest pieces. This one signed, authentic Matl is an exceptional example of her very best. Hallmarked as shown with the early tag Matl and weighing 107grams of repousse with the all turquoise stones providing a pallet that shows off the flowers and doves. All is beautifully carved. There is approximately 19 wearable inches in length and the centerpiece is 3in. across and 4in. tall. The corner links span 2inches...

Matilde Poulat designed this very clever snake with alternating designed coils making a .75in. wide chain. The head is 1in. wide and 2in. long with turquoise stones that make the clasp that is also the jewel to the entire piece. Every snake head that I have seen has always been different. Matilde arranged the stones and the stone choices with each piece individually making these snakes truly one of a kind...

Silver canines gleam menacingly in the corners of the mouth of this terrifying Edo period sabiji-nuri iron Menpo face mask. It has a three lame nodokake also with sabiji-nuri, laced with tight blue chord. The mustache is a bit ragged and there are typical chips around the edges from use.

Salvador Teran was one of the important Mexican designers from the Spratling Era and this elegant and early pearl and stone necklace bares his signature. Partially rubbed but the signature is there. The weight is 53 grams and has a 16in...

An unusual silver plated cigar table lighter circa 1880. This truly futuristic looking Victorian globular 3-1/2" tall smoking accessory stands on ball feet and it has two wick clamps for lighting the cigars. It worked like this: the central wick continually burned whilst the smoker would pull out one clamp which had a fluid-soaked small length of wick clamped in the tweezer.
