A C.M. Von Valkenburg Petrolia gold filled pocket watch circa 1900. This 2" across stem-wind pocket watch has a porcelain dial with a single sunk seconds dial and blued hands. It is printed with C.M. VON VALKENBURG PETROLIA (Ontario, Canada) on the face, and the 1-5/8" across works has nice damascening. The works are marked ADJUSTED 2 POSITIONS 17 JEWELS 3876866. We haven't identified the works however the regulator resembles that of Howard or Ball watches...

Chinese late Qing dynasty baitong (white brass), also called paktong, opium smoking pipe with nicely incised decoration featuring two beauties on a veranda on half of the base and calligraphy on the other half. Marked under the circular hinged top of the opium holder. The original tweezer and brush tool are included. Late 19th to early 20th century. 10 3/4” high to the tip of the pipe stem, base about 2 5/8” long x 1 1/4" wide x 2 1/2” high (to flat, circular lid)...

This African head rest is carved on the side supports with endless knot configuration. Additional carved detail is on the underside of the curved neckrest area. From Somali, the headrest has wonderful sculpture quality and is a good ethnographic tribal piece for display. Small crack in base goes less than 1/4 inch into wood...

This ladle was formed from a single steer horn and has been polished by years of use in service culinary soups and stews etc...Origins British Isles probably Scottish. There is a crack in the bowl but it retains its beauty as an object of the domestic arts.

Sometimes things just fall into your lap unexpectedly and this is what happened with the two Antonio Pineda brooches I am listing today. First up a fun (albeit ... smelly in real life, if you are not careful) figural brooch glorifying our beloved skunk! At least, I think it's a skunk and I wish I had a more noble name for the creature. Such an unusual, tongue-in-cheek design for Antonio who is seriously modernist and quite heavy at times...

Shaped like a US Army officer's visor cap, complete with the appropriate insignia, it recounts part of the relationship the two countries had during those difficult times albeit in its jewelry version...

There is something about her des. 5160 that makes one see the muscles in that strong neck, smell the warmth of the animal's mane, feel the tension as it waits for the go-ahead so it can run like the wind. Masterful repoussage, great design, deep chasing that makes the horse come alive and the patina you want to see on a well-loved, well-cared for silver brooch of this vintage...

This small intricately carved stone shoes were probably given as a gift of well wishing. 3 inches in length, they were carved from unidentified soft stone, not hard jade. There are numerous cracks and chips from age, but the shoes retain their original carving detail.

One of my favorite sub-genres in the world of vintage Mexican silver jewelry includes those early Deco repousse brooches wrought in the usually referred to as the “Mexico City style”, the most famous proponent of which is, undoubtedly, Matilde Poulat. Quite often anonymous, as in our case, these pieces can be fascinatingly weird, at times even bordering on the surreal...

Pair coin silver serving spoons. Each with Fiddle and Shell pattern and faintly monogrammed "NP". Both marked "C" within six point star mark. Presumably American Federal period. Each overall length: 9 7/8", bowl length: 2 7/8". One weighs 1.6 oz (46 grams) and the other weighs 1.5 oz (42 grams) for a total of just over 3oz.

Beautifully executed this Mexican silver and dyed calcite "mask-in-a-feathered-sunburst" brooch is based on a similar Spratling design (if I am not mistaken). Sunburst designs were popular among Mexican silversmiths in the first half of the 20th c. - a giver of life and warmth, the sun is important in all civilizations and its portrayal took on a myriad of symbolic meanings...

A 10k citrine citrene solitaire ring from the 1950s. This size 8 ring features a claw-set yellow/orange citrene stone (2.7 carats calculated). The setting is 1/4" across, the ring weighs 1.7 grams and it is stamped 10K with a maker's mark and the Canadian C gold mark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs...
