This is a bee hive shaped waterpot. It is sometimes referred to taibo zun or qizhao zun(chicken coop) in Chinese because of the shape. The domed shaped body has a countersunk base, with three incised roundel of scrolling kui dragons just about visible just beneath the beach bloom glaze accented with splashes of pink and a minute sprinkle apple or lime green...

This antique Japanese tea caddy is called a "Cha-ire" and dates from the late Edo period. It was used for storing thick tea which is called "Koicha". The more common tea caddy form or "natsume" was used for powdered or thin tea. The chai-ire forms vary somewhat and were most typically made from clay.

Both the octagonal shape and lacquer finish make this chaire very rare. It is also lovely...

 

Fine Ivory carved Japanese Netsuke of a Shishi Dog signed Tomo Tada a masterfully carved piece in excellent condition. Measuring 2 1/4 inches long or 5.5 centimeters.

A large dish, heavily potted, curving gently up from a ring foot, covered in a beautiful celadon glaze producing the "iron wire, golden thread" crackles of the Geyao type glaze. The recessed base is unglazed with orange burnt. Ming Dynasty : 16th Century Diameter 27 cm. Condition : Good , one shallow chip on the mouthrim, no hairline, crack or restoration.

A very rare big shard sample of five dynasty shallow dish, this large shard is decorated with celadon glaze, there is good sample drawing of twin birds. this shards is very good for studying and comparison to any one who interested in studying early Chinese porcelain.

H. 23 cm , slight discoloring on the shoulder due to the firing process. Excellent condition.

A shallow dish, heavily potted, covered in a beautiful celadon glaze producing the crackles of the Geyao type glaze. The recessed base is glazed while the foot rim is dressed with an iron brown wash. A small fan painting by an anonymous painter of the Tosa School in ink, colors and gold on paper. Mounted on goldfleck paper. Depicting a battle scene of the "Tale of the Heike", an epic account of the struggle between the Taira and Minamoto clans for control of Japan at the end of the 12th century. This fan painting probably belongs to the same set of illustrations of the "Heike Monogatari" in the Museum of Asian Art in Berlin. Condition: slightly browned, some pigments rubbed...
