This is a rare find! We just had to restore this amazing set of four matching Gendarme Club Chairs. Originally circa 1940's, these beauties deserved a second life. Recovered with our signature winter sheepskin, they offer a deep, full, comfortable seat. Hook a leg over one of these and you will fall in love. We would prefer to find a home for all four together, but are willing to sell as pairs as well.

Description: A celadon Longquan stem-cup was well molded. By a dark green tint, the glaze was well applied all over the surface except the foot ring. Motifs of flowers and branches were finely incised on the inner wall of the bowl and subtly revealed under the glaze. Authenticating firing red was obvious at the unglazed foot ring and the inside of the looped foot trunk. In quite good size and a perfect condition, the stem cup stands well in a decent look...

Vertical oban depicting a fox attacking a man and child by Utagawa Yoshiiku (1833-1904). A three-eyed ghost gazes menacingly at the scene from the upper right corner. The date of "8th month of Meiji 6" (1873) appears in the right portion of the calligraphic description of the scene taking place.
