This classical ,generous and inviting teabowl chawan is by legendary Hagi master potter; Yoshiga Taibi (1915-1991). The sumptuous form is highlighted with a thin ash glaze over the rich hagi clay and crackled slip with tones running from Hagi creamy pink to lavender with the gritty clay visually punctuating the foot/kodai. Though marked, the seal is unread. This chawan was purchased at a store in Hagi. The original owner could not wait the extra day for the wood box, so it is presented here in a Hagi store gift box. It was thought that this chawan was made by Notomi Choun, but I will leave the detective work to the next owner.

Large and powerful Shiro-Hagi chawan by veteran Hagi potter; Mashita Tadashi. This chawan though appearing pure white, has a nice blush of pink through out portions of the bowl. An exquisite Nerikomi basin by Shiobara Yoshio enclosed in the original signed wooden box exhibited at the 9th Nihon Togeiten National Exhibition. Nerikomi is the technique of working with layers of variously colored clays. This basin measures 17 inches (43 cm) diameter, 6 inches (16 cm) tall and is in fine condition. This is another tea bowl we offer from famous Waraku Kawasaki.
It is a red Raku Chawan with a gentle charisma and tasteful hand painting of a plum tree.
The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom.
Waraku kiln has been producing raku wares in Kyoto since the end of Edo era. Kawasaki Waraku, born in 1936, is the 7th generation of Waraku potters.
No chips, no cracks only a small glaze-peeled spot on the rim. Refer to the last picture to check it.
