Elegant Irabo glazed chawan by Takatori legend, Miraku Kamei. This chawan has a Chinese influenced form while being made and glazed in the Takatori style. The flowing irabo ash glaze contrasts nicely against the reddish takatori fine clay.

This chawan is in excellent, unused condition, measures 5" x 2.8" and comes complete with its original, signed box.

A pair of iron glazed, paddled (tataki) teabowl, both with hand cut feet. The left chawan glazed in temmoku with a tetsu-yu glaze over and the right bowl glazed in an alkaline clear with my saffron, iron yellow glaze over. Both bowls are tabi-chawan style and feel good in the hand.

Very large Oribe teabowl that was thrown and tataki paddled with texture into an oval form. There are two tones of green from the oribe on the bare clay and over areas of poured white slip. The foot is tooled by hand, off the wheel, to go with the form of the bowl.

Brilliantly glazed, Chinese influenced shishayu (copper red) vase made in Japan, circa 1950 - 1960. This vase owes its inspiration to Ming and Ching period of China and is made of porcelain and then heavily glazed in a multi-dimensional shinshayu glaze. Though it comes with the original signed box and is prominently signed, the maker is at this point, unidentified.

This vase is in excellent condition, measures 8.75" x 4" and comes with its original signed box.

Sophisticated, yet naturalistic set of five, hand made, hand cut leaf plates with red enamel leaf designs under a washed gold gilt surface. This Rimpa influenced set for casual or kaiseki use are by veteran Kyoto Kiyomizu potter, Heian Seiun and most likely date to the 1960s...

Evocative blue decorated henko bottle vase with fluid brush decoration and sgrafitto decoration prominently signed; SEIRAN. The cobalt decoration sits on an almost ash style glaze with spots of blushed areas, similar to Hagi pottery. I have not been able to find out anything about the potter, but the brushwork and use of space suggests a full time potter, used to working in this particular style.

This henko is in perfect condition with its original signed box and measures 8" X 8.5" x 6".

A very cool Ginsai covered dish by Banura Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Bright silver swirls to the center alternated by wrinkled lead colored glaze. It is 8 inches (20.5 cm) diameter and in excellent condition.
Shiro was born the fourth son of Living National Treasure for Lacquerware. His sensitivity to textures may stem from that exacting influence...

Each uniquely carved row of frets on this large textured koro is a variegated shade of raw clay by Matsuzaki Ken enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The piece measures7 inches (17 cm) square, 9 inches (22 cm) tall and is in fine condition.

This rare Ido chawan is glazed in a milky ash, Hagi style glaze and was presumably made at the kiln of the Tenryu-ji temple (Kyoto-yaki) as it bares the seal of the kiln. The clay was made using ground roof tile, a piece brought back from China which is explained in the accompanying paperwork provided with the chawan...

A large Shinshoku Ware-tsubo eroded through natural processes during firing with a shattered rim attached to the body at the shoulder. This piece is a virtual textbook on Yohen firing effects. A flamboyant vase by Kawai Toru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled: Gosu Mentori Ashitsuki Tsubo. Outside the vase is covered in Gosu blue, inside contrasted with iron red. The shape is all Toru, an artist who took the work of Kanjiro and moved beyond, as represented in this large tri-legged tsubo. The vase is 14 inches (35 cm) tall, roughly 12 inches (30 cm) diameter and in perfect condition.

Charred ash deposits are baked into the side of this large Tsubo by Shigaraki Representative Otani Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Rivulets strike out from the heat blasted face, the coloring pleasing on all sides. The Tsubo is 10-1/2 inches (26 cm) diameter, 9 inches (23 cm) tall and in perfect condition.

A large Mimitsuki Vase covered in deeply fissured celadon glaze by Suzuki Sansei (b. 1936) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. This large Zenga chawan is glazed in a rich Oribe with a panel of ash clear glaze on which Kasumi Bunsho brushed “Don’t Know” and his full signature, Myoshin Abbot Jishunken with various seals. The Mino tradition chawan was made by Hayashi Ryouji of the Souzan kiln to act as the platform for Bunsho’s idiosyncratic and spontaneous calligraphy. This subtle, yet impressive mizusashi is by modern Karatsu legend; Nakazato Takeshi (b. 1937). This rounded, bowl shaped mizusashi is coated in a velvety layer of green ash with several areas of flashed iron red hi-iro and a patch of glassy bidoro where the piece faced the assaulting fire from Takeshi’s Ryutagama wood kiln.
