Yamamoto San has been designated as Important Intangible Cultural Asset of Okayama Prefecture in 1996.

Green ash has poured in a torrent around the form, settling into glossy black around the base on one side and tingeing the rim with charcoal fingers. To one side huge crescent moon shaped kutsuki forms a rakish grin, inviting the viewer to join in the merriment.

This very robust and Momoyama influenced vase was made by Mino potter and part magician, Hori Ichiro. Thrown out of a grainy, off white mogusa clay and decorated in blades of grass on the front and side, the pot was finished off with Hori's classic Shino glaze and fired in his wood kiln.
