This odd squat bottle, with the sake cup resting on top, reminds me of images of the itinerant Buddhist Monk Taneda Santoka who wandered Japan in the pre-war era, his black robes flowing down around his bundled form, fueled by drink and composing poems. Here he is found, bamboo Kasa hat pulled down over his eyes, dozing off along the trailside. This Tokkuri and Guinomi are by Murakoshi Takuma, a cherubic poet in clay also fueled by his love for wine and given to wandering...

Kaneshige Toyo is no doubt one of the most important Japanese potters in 20 century and the first Bizen artist to be awarded with Living National Treasure title in 1956.
He is considered as the founder of modern Bizen pottery and at the same time he is known for successfully recreating the sheen of Momoyama Bizen pottery.

A very large (oburi) and powerful Shino chawan by Miyamura Yoshinobu very reminiscent of Hayashi Shotaro's works. Thick splashes of pure white Shino glaze punctuate the rusty red Aka-Shino glaze which covers the entire teabowl.

This chawan measures 5.4" X 4" and is in perfect condition and comes with it's signed box.

An excellent example of the great works being made today based on Momoyama era Mino-yaki...

A large vase by the legendary Miyashita Zenji 宮下善爾 (1939-2012), one of the greatest contemporary Kyoto potters. This is an early work, when he focused on celadon-like glazes. Mint Oni-Hagi masterpiece chawan with notched foot by star potter Seigan Yamane. This extraordinary tea bowl is covered by wonderful different shades of orange-red glaze on brown pottery. In my opinion it is the one of the most aesthetic chawans that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom. We have a similar chawan with greenish glaze - same price.

Seigan Yamane was born in 1952, and started making Hagi ware in 1987...

Reminiscent of the Rolling Stones album cover, a wild sculpture by important contemporary sculptor Hayami Shiro. The bean shaped object is 15 cm (6 inches) diameter, 32 cm (12-1/2 inches) long and in excellent condition. It is signed on the base and appears to be dated 1999.
