A mesh of copper draperies hang over the dark black of this unusually shaped Tsubo by Tenmoku specialist Kimura Moriyasu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shoju Tenmoku Henko. Shoju Tenmoku, literally Pine-Needle-Tenmoku, is a glaze technique where the effect joins in a mesh like pine needles overlapping, very difficult to pull off, but here Moriyasu has done it masterfully. The vessel is 30.5 cm (12 inches) tall, 19 x 16 cm (7-1/2 x 6 inches) and is in excellent condition...

There is no doubt about the superlative nature of the deep celadon glazes used by Living National Treasure Nakajima Hiroshi, and this vessel is no let down.  A darkly crackled rich green covers this sake flask which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled modestly Seiji Tokkuri.  Up from the base drive two fingers of rich red clay, the blanks left by the artists fingers when he dipped the bottle in glaze.  This adds a strong sense of connection between the artist and user. 

This particular vase is having all of the bells and whistles a collector would want from a work by Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hai-kabu Zogan Jomon Tsubo . Spectacular kiln affects dapple this playful form by artist Sugimoto Sadamitsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanire.  Ash has encrusted the base so thickly he has had to grind it off, this happens when the piece gets buried up to a point in the ash on the kiln flooror up against a wall, and the works come up together this cooled encrustation.  That combines with the natural sunrise colors or “Hi-iro” of the clay, and the glassy green beads wrapping around the jocula...

Thick iron and feldspar cover the Iga glaze of this small vase by Ayukai Kogetsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oni Iga Ko Tsubo. It is 13 cm (5 inches) tall, roughly 9 cm (3-3/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition. I think it would also make a nice tokkuri.
Ayukai Kogetsu is a female artist from Miyagi prefecture...

A superb sculptural work of horizontal facets stacked upon each other in twisting obelisk by Mashiko based potter Matsuzaki Ken enclosed in the original signed wooden box. This is a masterpiece by this artist. It is 17 inches (43 cm) tall, 8 x 8-1/2 inches (20 x 21 cm) and in excellent condition. An identical shape is held in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and published in the book “Contemporary Clay, Japanese Ceramics for the New Centruy” by Joe Earle...

Moltenb ash tumbles over the sides of this lidded coffer by Fujioka Shuhei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Toko (Ceramic Box).   The shape is organic with a clefted-mesa likening to a Japanese garden stone.  Rather than a simple round separation, the artist has chosen a key shaped cut which adds a sense of the natural world, God does not work in straight lines so they say, and neither does Fujioka Sensei!

A fantastic Mimitsuki fresh water container with rolling, sculptural corners very much in the style of the highly sought Bizen master Kakurezaki Ruichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The feldspar covering this unusual torn and ragged Incense Burner by Hayashi Shotaro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Manyosai Koro . Marbleized pinks, molten iron blending with rust, moss green and everything in between can be seen in this amazing onslaught of color. His designation “Manyosai” comes from the ancient selection of poetry named after the infinite shades of fallen leaves. We can easily see in this piece how he chose the epithet.
