Drawing inspiration from Mexico’s Spanish Colonial past, this sterling silver necklace and earrings set by Margot de Taxco combines dark oxidation with overlay and deep hand-chasing to achieve an elaborate and rich Old World visual effect. I find the central station to resemble a carnival mask - I know, too Venetian but then, carnivals were celebrated in Spain as well though not as elegantly or extravagantly. The earrings, extra wide, mirror the shape of the necklace’s focal point while refl...

“Jewels by Tono”, the signature found on the figural Mexican silver and carved amethyst brooch at hand, is one of Antonio Pineda’s early hallmarks. Holding a fan, his hair in a long braid, part of his face obscured by the wide coolie hat, the man portrayed here is meant to hail from the “exotic Far East”. Yet interestingly enough the face itself betrays Mexican origins, its features exactly the same as those of carved stone “masks” set in classic Taxco jewelry from its “archeolog...

This vintage Mexican necklace is appropriately marked and signed for Los Castillo and with eagle mark. This piece is a statement and not for the faint of heart at 111 grams. The oval drop measures 2.5in x 1 7/8in. It safely fits a 16 in. neck size. Beautiful condition and the stone is a thriller with streaks of Amethyst lines running thru the almost clear quartz. All natural inclusions on the inside of stone. The earrings are of same design but are not Los Castillo but look fabulous with the pie...

The diameter of the bracelet is 2.5in. and fits most. The panels are divided up with a decorative motif of a caviar bead wrapped in rope and bead work up and down the height of the bracelet. The bold design of this cuff features Viking influences, with embossed traditional patterns on an oxidized background. The terminals are curved for easily slipping the piece over the wrist, and there are applied triangular plaques where a safety chain was attached. The bracelet is inscribed inside and dated 1967. The Georg Jensen post-1945 mark appears on the edge of one terminal, and the design number 78 is on the other. There is a 1/16-inch impact under one edge (see photo 5). The cuff has a 7...
Constructionist brooch by important jewelry maker Sam Kramer, who produced avant-guarde jewelry in his New York based shop in the 1950s.
