Impressive in size this vintage Janna Thomas Mexican silver pendant is an example of the "pluma Azteca" technique which incorporates vividly colored bird feathers in sterling jewelry. Very reminiscent of plique-a-jour work, "pluma Azteca" was introduced by the Los Castillo workshop and it is a demanding, difficult process so it was emulated by just a handful of other Taxco maestros. A long necklace with silver and copper links and a central warrior shaped pendant in mixed metals attributed to Los Castillo.
The chain measures 24" long and has a hook clasp. The central pendant is made from married silver, copper, and brass metals and has an inlay of some kind of green stone. It measures 4" long and 1 3/4" at the widest.
Marked Hecho en Mexico on the reverse which is brass. Has some surface scratches and shows a little wear. We did not polish it...
