Alberto Contreras Sr. was trained by master silversmith Frank Patania Sr. in the late 1940's and employed at the Patania Thuderbird Shop in Santa Fe. Their work was heavily influenced by the Native American jewelers that worked with them. These beautiful clip back sterling and turquoise earrings feature a striking Modernist design with great stones. They measure 1"by1" and weigh 16 grams total. This bronze or patinated brass pendant measures 3 1/2" long and 2" across. Has thick sterling wire around the edge and a curved design on each end. Interesting hammered texture.
There is some tarnish and a little wear to the bronze patina. Has a large bale so will also accommodate a thick chain or neck ring.

A signed sterling green turquoise cross by Evelyn Anderson who worked for the Atkinson Trading Company. The necklace is not original to the piece and has some darkening in areas that is difficult to polish.
The cross is marked E.A. Sterling and measures 3" x 4"; the 24" necklace is unmarked. A similar piece can be found in "Skystone and Silver ~ The Collector's Book of Southwest Indian Jewelry".
