A PAIR of oil on canvas paintings of a younger man, each 33" by 24 3/4", unsigned, circa late 20th century. The pair is striking in that one is painted in monochromatic style, the other in natural color. Placed together, they make for a most interesting set. Condition is generally good with a few minor flaws they have acquired, including light abrasions, light soiling in places, a tiny tiny puncture, etc. Speckles in hair on colored painting are just a light effect...

Oil on canvas painting, 20" by 28" (24" by 32" framed), the subject a great clipper ship of the 19th century silhouetted against the setting sun (or dawn) on a calm sea. The painting is signed at lower left by the artist, William P. Lawrence and is dated below that either 1938 or 1928; difficult to discern. I don't see that he is a listed artist but obviously he was talented. The scene has a fine luminosity and clearly shows the painter's understanding of light and backlighting...

Titled on two labels "Monterey Wharf", this is a striking, impressionist yet modern painting by a talented artist who was born in nearby Watsonville of Japanese ancestry. A nicely painted contemporary work on canvas, unsigned, 12" by 16", unframed, featuring a landscape of trees with early autumnal colors showing. The piece is in excellent condition. Needs a frame which should be easy/economical as the size is a "standard" size. The anonymous artist has created a very pleasing work; an excellent understanding of both impressionist theory as well as light and color is evident.
