This work was done during the late 1930's as part of the 'Cooperative' project in the New Hope, Pa. modern art community. Charles Ramsey, Louis Stone and Charles Evans worked collectively on many drawings and paintings during this time...

This is a finely executed pastel drawing of a soldier of approximately the 17th century in Europe, 22 1/2" by 16 1/2" (27" by 20 1/2" framed), signed at lower left with the initials "A R". I have been unable to connect this to a known artist but the quality is evident. Laid down on the backing, the work is in excellent condition behind glass...

An early 20th century pastel landscape of trees and a small creek at left, 20" by 27 1/2" as framed behind glass, no mat, signed at lower right by artist H. W. Carr. This was a period of great activity in pastel landscape painting; displaying original art in one's home, instead of a mere print, was considered a symbol of status. The frame is worn, with chipping.

Images of the work have been examined by the recognized authority on Clark; he can provide me with a letter attesting to the authenticity of the piece. Pastel and charcoal on gray paper, 17 1/2" by 11 1/2" (20" by 14" in wood frame), signed at lower right with conjoined initials "VG", which corresponds to the name of the artist Vinnie Gjere. I was able to figure out the authorship due to there being a companion piece on my site, also a still life and purchased at the same time as this one; that piece is not signed on the front but on the reverse in pencil is "Vinnie Gjere"...

Attractive, nicely worked pastel landscape of California in the fall, 14" by 17 3/4" (24" by 27 1/2" presently in gold metal frame), signed at lower left "Dorothy Dennison" and dated there 1962. The piece is very clean and fresh. The artist was obviously a skilled practitioner when it came to this difficult to master medium.

This is a drawing of traditional subject matter in a contemporary style, evidently by a youngster who lived at the Taos Pueblo in northern New Mexico. Measuring 7 3/8" by 11 1/2" inside the present mat (12 5/8" by 17 1/2" as framed), the image is of a bison with a stylized sun at upper left, and scattered stylized trees, with a multi story adobe at lower right serving as the Pueblo itself. On the reverse is written "Age 13/Taos Day School/New,Mexico 87511/Taos Pueblo/U.S.A."...

For the collector of vintage plein air art, this is a classic drawing on tan paper executed in Italy in the year 1924 by well listed, frequently auctioned California plein air artist DANA BARTLETT (1882-1957). It is signed in a longhand signature at lower left, and at lower right is inscribed "Venice Italy" and the date 1924 once again...
