A scarce watercolor work of Southern art, the subject a street scene with traditional historic architecture including a church, two tiny figures and a tree, measuring inside the wood frame 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14 3/4" by 13" framed). The scene could be New Orleans or Charleston, South Carolina; I found the work in western Virginia. There is a signature at lower right but all attempts to read it have failed, though, it does appear that the date 1905 is at lower right...

Online research has revealed the artist to be a talented woman who was born in 1919 and passed away in 1994...

Indian painting of the goddess Shailaputri, in unique Navaratna style of painting from 1930s, when Indian was emerging with its own unique style of painting. Gouache delicately painted and encoded with symbols of Hindu spiritual meaning. Crescent moon is on her forehead with halo around her head. Watercolor on paper river fantasy scene set in the tropics, 10 1/2" by 22" and 3" wide circa early 20th century frame in very good condition, signed at lower right "W W COWELL" and dated 18(last two digits not easily discernible, possibly "189_" or could be "1879"). This is one of the rare works of painter WILLIAM WILSON COWELL (1819-1898), primarily an east coast artist who also was known to paint in the Great Lakes area, and, late in life, in Nova Scotia, Canada...

A Korean Dalma (Lohan) Painting by Priest Joong-Kwang (1935-2002); Korea, this painting mounted with brocaded cloth and wood framed back. This Korean Dalma painted in ink on paper and dated 1980s, signed Joong-Kwang in Korean and sealed the artist's name and priest Joong-Kwang. It's in very good condition, and measures 60.5cm x 43.2cm (25 3/4" x 17") painting only.

A watercolor painting of a fountain on an elegant seaside or lakeside property, 8 1/2" by 6" (12 1/4" by 9 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by listed Swiss artist JOSEPHINE VERNAY (1861-?). Vernay's birth/death dates are suspect, or possibly confused with those of her brother, artist Francois Joseph Vernay; one source lists hers as 1864-1950, the same as her brother's. My brief net research has failed to turn up a painting dated after 1918...

Highly impressionistic watercolor painting of a small boat in a foggy harbor, 14" by 20", unframed, signed at lower left by the listed American artist JOSEPH MARGULIES (1896-1984). Margulies was born in Vienna and by the 1920's was studying art in New York at the Art Students League, one of his instructors being Joseph Pennell. He also received training at the National Academy, Cooper Union, and in Europe...

This great original, watercolor painting is done by one of New Orleans' finest, well-known artist. It features a great adaptation of Bourbon Street in New Orleans, showing the New Orleans Jazz and the well-known jazz bar, "The Cats Meow." The artist is Donabeth Jones, known as "The Hungry Artist," from the Hungry Artist Studio. It is an original, signed and titled. It is framed and matted, measuring 19 1/2" x 16". It is dated '91 and is in excellent condition.

A pleasing watercolor painting of a small sail boat on a lake, trees beyond, painted in an impressionist hand. Unfortunately the talented artist did not sign the work, which is laid down on a card. Framing circa mid 1960's included the old fashioned detail-dulling non-glare glass which should be discarded. The work measures 14" by 10" inside the mat and 19 1/2" by 14 1/2" framed...

Watercolor painting of some age, 13" by 10 1/2" (22" by 18" framed), the subject simply a tree, but, that subject is handled very beautifully, and the work is signed at lower right by artist Paula Day (on whom I find no information). The interpretation of light and color belies the hand of a talented artist. Judging from the framing materials this dates no later than the mid 1960's and likely earlier. I recommend a new mat only; the frame can be retained.

This is a masterful drawing with a definite modernist touch, by well listed artist GENE McCOMAS (1886-1982), depicting a tropical house under palms, likely in the South Seas---the artist traveled to and painted Tahiti and nearby Moorea island. The artist was San Francisco-born, and is associated with the Bay Area and the Monterey-Carmel area, but she and her husband traveled extensively and obviously produced art in these exotic locations...
