The work depicts a dramatic landscape, perhaps in Utah, or Arizona, the geologic formations seemingly mimicking organic forms and Moderne and Art Deco shapes. This was probably preliminary art for a more finished drawing or painting by this well known freelance illustrator. '45" and again signed, this time on the mat, at lower right. There is another word after "Page" that appears as "Douyes" or "Damyes" or similar, but I am unable to locate a listed artist by any of these names...

Watercolor on paper of wildflowers in a ceramic vessel, and what appear to be cherries in the foreground, 19 3/4" by 15 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right with a signature that looks like "M. Bals-Werthmann" or similar, and dated there 1944. I don't see a listing for that name or variants I have tried. The artist, working during the darkest days of World War II, must have been wanting to try to bring a little brightness to grim times...

Watercolor on paper, unframed, 9" by 11 3/4", signed at lower right in pencil, and signed again and apparently titled on the reverse, by the noted, long-lived American artist, THERESA FERBER BERNSTEIN (1890-2002). The watercolor likely dates to about the middle years of the 20th century, I would guess. Writing on the reverse seems to say "Israel/Yarkon River". This is a larger than typically seen watercolor of roses, in the style prevalent around the turn of the century. The work is signed at lower right corner "E. J. Fischer". Measurements are 20" by 29" and 25" by 34" in the white wood frame. There is a listing for an artist in Denmark by that name but I believe this to be an American work and unrelated to the European artist. Condition is excellent. Found in Southern California. The work is behind a large sheet of the old style non-glare glas...

A Fine Watercolor by the Listed Artist, Ignatz Sahula-Dycke (1900-82). Measures about 17 1/2" by 14 1/2" matte opening, overall about 25" by 22". Signed lower right. Sahula-Dycke has written something above his signature that I can not read, below his signature is lightly written "Phoenix 1940 Arizona".

Banka Maruyama was a Japanese watercolor artist whose work spanned the Meiji, Taishō and Shōwa periods. Today, his work can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

Watercolor and pencil on paper drawing of a red roofed village church surrounded by small houses and trees, 12 1/4" by 17 7/8" (20 3/4" by 25 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "V.J. Roux-Champion 1944). The drawing is a work of noted French artist VICTOR JOSEPH ROUX-CHAMPION (1871-1953). Condition is excellent with fresh colors and no water damage or foxing. The artist's works are offered at auction in England and the Continent.
