To date I have been unable to match the letters to any particular artist (nor could the Christie's Russian art specialist, when she saw it). The painting is extremely soiled and the canvas very uneven (could be described as sunken in, and the ripples "hardened" over time)...

As the images of the reverse labels show, the artist was apparently misidentified by previous owners, including the Brand Library in Glendale, California. A rare, early (1934) watercolor from an artist of the so-called "Lost Colony" of Saint Augustine, Florida artists, ROBERT HAMILTON, featuring one of the classic old buildings of the town dating to the end of the 18th century, the "Old Fatio House", (known today as the "Ximenez-Fatio House"), painted in an impressionist hand. Hamilton signed the work and lower right and dated it there. Measurements are 9" by 13 1/4" inside the mat, 14 1/2" by 18 3/4" as framed...

An unstretched oil on canvas of a rocky forested coast, presumably in Finland, signed at lower right and dated there 1936 by listed Finnish artist TOIVE JYRINKI (1895-1988). The canvas measures 13 1/4" by 18 3/4". There does not appear to be a lot of information on the talented artist. The scene is reminiscent of much 19th century American art such as paintings of the rocky coast of Maine. Condition is vintage good, needs to be mounted and framed.

An old watercolor of a street scene in Alsace (the portion of eastern France that borders Germany), featuring a well for water and a half timbered house wall, along with a pretty window with flowers in pots. The artist, AMELIE FOLEY-RISLER (1870-1947) signed at bottom left and the town is identified there as Niedermorschwihr, Alsace. The unframed watercolor, 14 3/4" by 11", is in excellent condition. The artist was primarily a watercolorist, but there does not seem to be an available biograph...

Artist Sakari Suzuki landscape dated 1940 Modernist style work measuring 24x30 inches, frame size 32x38” (10 October 1899 – January 1995) was an American artist born in Japan. Suzuki was born in Iwate, Japan. He moved to San Francisco in 1918 to join his father. Sukuzi attended California School of Fine Arts[1] there in 1924.
