A very large poster in colors, 46 1/4" by 31 1/4" (50 3/4" by 35 3/4" in attractive, quality real gold leaf framing), the work "Ambassadeurs/Aristide Bruant", originally published in 1892, by the famed French Post-Impressionist artist HENRI DE TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (1864-1901). The original poster, which can bring tens of thousands of dollars at auctions of fine and important prints, is in two sheets and measures a whopping (roughly) 54 inches by about 36 inches...

One of Maki’s favorite themes was the image shown here. Some outstanding ones are shown in the listing. I reckon Maki did about 25 different prints with the theme Child. Several little children can be seen swimming in the image in frame 9. The child in the right of this list panel is the image imprinted in the cover of Festive Wine, to which Maki contributed 21 images in 1969.

This Warren Davis etching measures 7 7/8 x 6 inches, pencil signed, label from Kleemann-Thorman Galleries, New York included, c.1928. This delicately rendered etching is a great example of Davis's images of graceful female nudes, many of which were used for Vanity Fair and Life magazines in the very early 1900s.

HESTON (1923-2018) was for 64 years the wife of the famous American actor, but was an independent woman who carved her own path despite being in the shadow of one of America's most famous faces of the 20th century...

Complete 1967 portfolio of 25 soft ground etchings with aquatint by Jack Levine (American, Boston, born 1915). This work is complete--portfolio case plus all original material, including the 25 soft ground etchings individually pencil signed by the artist and numbered 37/100. Published in 1967 by Touchstone Publishers on handmade BFK Rives wove paper. This portfolio was inspired by the "Dreigroschen Oper" film by Pabst, after the play by Bertold Brecht (The Threepenny Opera)...

Tavik Frantisek Simon, Czechoslovakian, 1877-1942, "Boulevard Saint Martin in Winter". A wintry day on a busy tree-lined street in Paris is the subject of this color aquatint etching by T. F. Simon. Published in 1914 in an edition of 200 it measures 12 1/4 x 14 1/2 inches. Pencil signed on the l.r. with a watermark on the l.l.

Charles Jacques, French, 19th Century, Engraving, "Paysans se Desalterant", plate inscribed under image, '53' dated 1849 after the 17th century image by A. V. Osted, image size 5 3/4 x 4 5/8 inches; Jacques had won medals of merit in the Salon for his etchings the previous year.

In 1970 quite suddenly Haku Maki started producing truly large prints. They were dramatic and somewhat unexpected, all at least 24in x 24in and extended in size to 35in x 35in. His huge print of a woman is 36in x 72in. All of these were created in 1970. Then no Big ones until Big Mu done in 1973. Then no more huge ones. What happened to Maki? What happened to the supply of paper? This Poem 70-10 is pretty large--17.5in W x 24.5in H--but it was succeeded by others even larger.

A beautiful multi-plate color etching by master printmaker LUIGI KASIMIR (1881-1962), dated lower right 1922, and pencil signed there in the margin by the artist. The subject could be mistaken for Paris, what with the advertising kiosk, but this is in fact the Vienna Opera House in Austria. Kasimir was born in present-day Slovenia into a family of poets and artists...

With gofun paste for the flying snow and extensive embossing as snow banks, two women with umbrellas cross a bridge over the river Sumidagawa in a heavy snowfall. Haku Maki Poem 71 92 - was done in 1971, one of the four years in which Maki did over 100 different prints. In 1971 he did about 5 Big prints – at least two sides are over 30 inches. In his total oeuvre he did 20+ big ones but only one Yellow This is it. It seems to be a single yellow stroke piercing the black; it is also the kanji for Mind in Maki’s mind...
