Sepia-toned photograph of coconut palms in Hawaii, seemingly in a rice paddy type setting, framed apparently circa 1930 give or take a few years (there being an original old framer/art supply label from Pacific Picture Framing at 1050 Nuuanu St., ("below the hotel"), Honolulu, T.H. (Territory of Hawaii). This would appear to be a downtown Honolulu address, perhaps known today as Nuuanu AVENUE. The exact age of the photo is hard to determine. It is in excellent condition...

The photo dates from somewhere in that period, and very likely to the early/mid 1930's...

The title is: A Mirage, it was one of his Venetian series, created and printed in , 1928 in an edition of only 76. This image measures 11 13/16X14 3/8 inches. This image was published in Fine Prints of the Year in 1928. Fine use of plate tone in the sea and sky.

Pencil signed at lower right and bearing "Artist's Proof" at lower left is this etching, 10 3/4" by 8 1/2" inside the mat, 18 3/4" by 15 3/4" as framed, by the noted late American artist JACK LEVINE (1915-2010). Levine, deceased in 2010 at the age of 95, will be remembered as an artist who bucked the modernism trends to pursue his own trail in social satire, caricature, and "Hebraism".
