The scene is the timeless, shifting sands of the California desert, likely in the Palm Springs region. There does not appear to be information on an artist by this name, but that does not mean that she was not talented. There are a few light surface scratches and light soiling naturally accumulated over sixty plus years...

A French oil on canvas painting of a flirting couple, the male dressed as a pierrot clown, she in an elegant ornate dress, the work signed at lower left with what appears as "Jos. Bellet". The work could possibly be by JEAN PIERRE JOSEPH ALFRED BELLET DU POISAT (1823-1883), but further research may be required to confirm the artist. Measurements are 13" by 9 3/4" (20 1/2" by 16 3/4" in old gold frame)...

A PAIR of lithographs, one of a male, another of a woman, the larger work 24" by 17 3/4" inside the mat (28 1/2" by 22 1/4" framed), the other 19" by 16 3/4" (23 1/2" by 21" framed), both signed in Hebrew in the plate, the larger print numbered 1/50 at lower left in pencil. The works are in black ink though the larger piece exhibits faint blue in the background and light red in the cap. The larger piece has two short edge tears, one at upper left (about 2"), the other at top (about 3/4").

Oil on canvasboard painting of flowers in a Southwestern pot, another colorful vessel nearby, and an interesting checkered pattern at bottom adding depth and complexity to the imagery. The work is signed at lower right by artist A. M. WEBER, and signed again on the reverse and titled there "MEXICAN STILL LIFE". Measurements are 19 1/2" by 24" and 24 1/2" by 29" framed. The work could date from about 1940 to about the early 1950's. I do not see a listing for this obviously talented artist...

One of an identically framed pair of Currier trotter horse prints in my shop, this example, "The Grand Horse ST. JULIEN, the 'King of Trotters'." (measuring 11 1/2" by 14 1/2" inside the mat, and 19" by 23" framed), is in very good condition. The print is after a painting by the noted American artist Scott Leighton. I have not examined it out of the frame but for the most part, the kinds of problems that most Currier and Ives print acquire over time are not present...

VOLUPTUOUS TORSO

Plastic torso wearing smaller pantie than full scale manufactured (but not for sale) by Wacoal, the Japan's leading undergarment maker. Showa period, 20th century, Japan. H 21.5 x W 15 x D 10.5cm (8.46 x 5.90 x 4.13in). Maybe a sample, but a rare as never seen before...

A piece for your vacation or ski home or rustic country cabin: three panels framed in wood, with color prints featuring Native American Indians. In one panel, a brave fires an arrow as his dogs watch; in the middle panel, Indians around a camp fire watch as one of their members fires a flaming arrow to the sky; and in the final panel, a brave with headdress sits, cradling a rifle in his lap...

This is a charming antique watercolor, signed at lower right "Vl. Titelbach", and dated there 1884, the subject a celebratory procession of country folk complete with ox-drawn wagons, horse, drums, pistol being fired in the air and other quaint details. The work is on old browned paper, and it measures 14" by 21" inside the mat. There is no glass (I discarded it---was cracked when this was found, in southern Maine). Presently it is housed only in a simple modern metal frame...

Gouache, ink and pencil on thin board snow scene, probably in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, measuring 4 3/4" by 5 3/4" (12" by 13" as framed) signed at lower right by noted California artist FRANK WILLIAM CUPRIEN (1871-1948). I removed this from the ornate frame with plaque found interesting information---this was executed perhaps quite spontaneously, on what looks like a piece of a mailing envelope, complete with circa 1940's stamps, the initials "FWC", apparent title, "timberline", and, typed...
