Original oil painting on panel by Max Band (Lithuanian-American, 1900-1974), signed l.l. and dating from the forties or the fifties. In excellent condition and still in its original frame. 23" by 19" in its frame, 14" by 10" painting alone. Max Band is a well-known School of Paris artist. He studied in Berlin in the early twenties before moving to Paris. His first solo exhibition was in his homeland at the National Theatre in Kaunas in 1925. It is an expansive scene, large enough to invite the viewer to feel he is a part of it. I suppose the work is Swedish or Danish. This is a really poetic work by FRANCIS LE COADIC (1912-), listed French artist, showing a country church and houses, a few figures, and a distinctively French telephone pole at the right side of the composition. The work, like a lot of Le Coadic's work, reminds one of Maurice Utrillo. Indeed, Le Coadic did paint a lot of works showing Montmartre in the snow, and other street scenes around Paris. He seems to be little known, and underrated; there are some auction records, but not many...

Regele was a student of Rudolf Stolz, and he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He painted generally landscapes of the Tirol region of Austria and Italy, as well as still life. Set of THREE Italian circa 1946 paintings on canvas, in decorative gold matching frames, unsigned, each 9" by 11 1/4" as framed, the subject familiar scenes of Venice, executed in the classical eighteenth century style of Canaletto or Guardi. These works were commonly produced for the tourist trade by talented artists. This set evidently dates to the immediate post-war period, as one bears a date stamp on reverse, 3 Ottobre 1946 and a "Made in Italy" circular sticker...

I have searched online under this name and similar spellings and strangely cannot seem to come up with a listed artist corresponding to the name. Listed or not, the artist knew how to paint...

An old oil on gray board painting of a stone bridge over the Seine River in central Paris, in high autumn. The work measures 9" by 12" (11 3/4" by 14 3/4" in attractive maybe 1930's frame). The signature at lower left appears to be "E Turner", the "E" placed on top of the "T". If I am reading this correctly, there does not appear to be a listed artist that would correspond. In any event, the work is excellent, and by a trained hand.

For the collector of modern and mid century art, here is an interesting work from the year 1947. The highly modern painting of a green apple, blue pitcher and red and white diamond patterned cloth in a rather two dimensional and "airless" space is obviously the work of an accomplished artist. It is painted in oil on canvas, (unframed), the measurements being 32" by 11", and the artist, HENRI WORMSER (1909-) signed it at lower right in capital letters...

Signed at lower left "Albert L. Fischer", this is an unframed, sizable oil on canvas (46" by 27"), the scene almost mural-like: an apparently Italian lake (see the gondolier at right), framed by blooming wisteria dripping off a trellis at top and climbing a lattice at bottom, several boats plying the calm lake waters. I don't see a listing for the artist. The work was sold by an interior design firm here in Los Angeles, which no doubt incorporated this unusual painting into an interesting set...
