Larolle was born in Paris, Oct 3rd, 1848 and died in Paris, April 22, 1929. He was not only a highly regarded painter of his time but also an avid collector, academician and musician. He was initially a pupil of Louis Lamothe in 1864 but never went to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts...
AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST JOSEPH DAWLEY 1936-2008, LAKE CHARLES LA , 24” x 24”. ……The following biography, submitted March 2005, is from the daughter of the artist. Although raised and educated in Texas, Joe Dawley moved to New Jersey in the early 1960's where he remained. He painted in the traditional Old Masters style until 1982, when the symptoms of Parkinson's - diagnosed in 1975 - necessitated brain surgery...
This is a really beautifully painted oil on a coarse, almost burlap canvas, the subject a sun-dappled yard of a house or other Spanish-California type structure populating old and established affluent communities such as Pasadena or Santa Barbara, tables and chairs in this little paradise awaiting the next social occasion. The work measures 16" by 20", UNFRAMED (the first image, with gold frame, is for display purposes only...again, the item will be sold UNFRAMED)...
This is a marriage of a circa 1880 gold American Victorian frame with distinctive and unusual diamond patterns in the gilt, the frame rabbet 14" by 18", the framed item total 19 1/2" by 23", a mid 20th century still life signed "Olenick" set into it. It makes for an interesting combination but doesn't have to necessarily stay that way. The antique frame itself is very attractive and could potentially house any number of 19th century paintings...
Oil on canvas, " by " (" by " framed), the subject a peaceful glen deep in a forest, painted in a luminous style reminiscent of the American Hudson River School, likely Fairy Glen in North Wales, signed at lower right by the noted well listed English artist WILLIAM MELLOR (1851-1931). Mellor was a highly prolific (I see over 1,200 auction records) artist, born in Barnsley, England. He traveled widely, painting often in Wales and Yorkshire...
AMERICAN MASTER ARTIST JOHN HOWARD, “Seascape in Hampton” is a wonderful oil on panel measuring 8” x 12” in a gilded plein aire frame that measures 16” x 19” QUILLEN ESTATE
Oil on canvas landscape of country cottages and feathery trees on the banks of a small pond or marsh, 9" by 12" (13" by 21" in its modern frame), signed at lower right "S. Clark", the subject given on the framing label as "On the Arun--Sussex". This is a painting by SAMUEL JOSEPH CLARK (1841-1928), a noted 19th century painter of rural landscapes and genre. Sometimes he is listed as Samuel JAMES Clark--there appears to be some confusion in the auction record...
This is a decorative painting of the sweep of the Bay of Naples and its famous Mt. Vesuvius volcano, executed in the classic manner with a few figures scattered in the foreground. A gnarled pine at center provides a dramatic focus point. The painting, 12" by 20" (15" by 23" framed) is old looking but probably dates to the mid 20th century; see staples on the tacking edge, and the reverse of the canvas doesn't look all that old---basically it's a case of looking older than it is...

The tonal and contemplated intensity of her paintings reflect her 10 years spent working as an artist under the desert sun of New Mexico. Her vibrant style, resonant with color and baroque in detail, swoons its delight over her canvases...

Impressive oil on canvas painting of a mountainous European lake landscape with historic ancient buildings reflected in the waters, signed at lower left G. PATTY. Photos of internationally famous Lake Como in northern Italy certainly resemble this scene. The uncommonly beautiful work, 26" by 32" (34" by 39" in much later, mid century frame), is painted in predominant blues, greens, and whites. The impressionistic handling suggests a very talented artist, yet, I am unable to locate a painter of...
Artist Robert Watson (1923-2004) has explored a surreal, mysterious world inhabited by lonely figures. According to a 1997 San Francisco article in Today’s New Herald “his paintings hang in museums and galleries worldwide and grace numerous private collections - including that of Paramount Pictures, in the estates of Clark Gable and Ed Sullivan, and in collections belonging to the late Duchess of Windsor and Vincent Price.”
Ray Bradbury was a great admirer of Watson’s work and, in 1958,...
