It is signed at lower right and dated there "12" (the year 1912). The artist is ALBERT ABRAMOVITZ (1879-1963). Abramovitz was born in Riga, Latvia. Oil on canvas painting of a picturesque old water mill located on a stream in high alpine mountains, 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed), not signed on the front side but the reverse side shows post-1885 stretcher keys, and pencil writing which identifies the scene as "The Valley of Jen(bach)? Switzerland", and the artist as "Louise Goodman 1914". The artist does not appear to be listed. The scene might possibly have been painted after an original by another artist of the 19th century...

An oil on canvas in a naive style of a line of deer walking along a gentle hill toward the top of a larger hill with the sunset and distant view of the other side of the valley. The painting was found in Shenandoah Valley though no record of, “A. Taylor” has been found. The tone of the painting is warm. While there are no give away clues as to the age between the late 19th or the early 20th century, it has a feel of being in the earlier part of that range rather than the later...

Oil on canvas painting of white and pink roses in a blue bowl, signed at lower right "Strachan". The work, measuring 18" by 24" and 23" by 28 1/2" in likely original frame, has tiny losses in background and lower left area. The frame also has light wear, and losses on back of left edge. Overall, a very shabby chic piece in feeling. There is an old Los Angeles framer's sticker on reverse backing.

This is a pretty, impressionist circa 1930's small landscape painting of trees and a path bordering water, painted on gray art board, measuring 9" by 12" (13 1/2" by 16" framed). There is no signature on the front but on the art board label is written in ink "Swick". This may or may not be the artist. The painting is so nicely executed, but its inherent beauty is dulled by decades of dirt. A professional cleaning will truly transform this one...

Oil on canvas laid on canvasboard at a later date, (13" by 16 1/4" as framed), signed boldly at lower right in Greek "PIPIS XARALAMBIS" and dated there 1914. The artist does not appear to be well known but the painting is nicely executed, with an excellent luminosity. In my experience, vintage and antique Greek paintings are quite scarce. The tall cypress trees at left balance the distant temple ruins at right. More research might reveal more on the artist...

Large oil on heavy oak panel painting of an ornate cathedral interior, featuring the large organ, 35" by 29" (47" by 41" framed), titled on the reverse, dated there August 1916, and signed by the noted Czech painter FRANTISEK JELINEK (1890-1977). Jelinek's works have sold at auction in Europe, largely in the Czech Republic, where he is known as a painter of landscapes, nudes, and genre. It took me a while to figure out the name of the artist and the subject, and even the language (I thought th...
