Oil on canvas painting of California mountains, a line of back lit trees in the middle ground, 18" by 23 1/2" (26 1/2" by 33" in vintage frame), signed at lower right by well listed California and western artist JOE WAANO-GANO (1906-1982). Waano-Gano was of Cherokee heritage. Born in Salt Lake City, he moved to Los Angeles while still young, studying at UCLA and USC with Theodore Lukits and Christian von Schneidau...
This work needs some TLC, due to a large rip, unstable and missing paint, and grime......a vintage late 19th century/early 20th century work on canvas, 18" by 30", unframed, apparently unsigned, the subject one of the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. The painting should be saved for posterity, but for that to happen, it will require relining, cleaning and inpainting by a professional restorer. If you are a restorer yourself, this would be an ideal acquisition.
Oil on canvas painting of a small house in the trees, 22" by 26" (28" by 32" framed), signed at lower right "Stahl" and dated there "42", titled on reverse "In Laurel Canyon" and signed and dated again there. This is an early work by the important, well-listed American illustrator artist and art educator BENJAMIN A. STAHL (1910-1987). Stahl was Chicago-born, and traveled to Mexico and apparently California as well, before settling into Weston, Connecticut and eventually, Sarasota, Florida...

A small (8 1/2" by 10 3/4" framed) oil on board painting of a white farmhouse with red chimney, red barn and classic windmill at center, circa 1900, signed faintly at lower right "A Sowell" or similar. The hand is primitive, charmingly naive; the scene could be nearly anywhere in the central or eastern United States, most likely the Midwest, Plains or east. A painting which brings on a peaceful feeling in the viewer, as it harkens back to simpler times.
Oil on canvas painting of a tabby cat, 7" by 5" (12" by 10" framed), circa 1970 to 1980 judging from the framing, signed lower right "Jody". The artist was certainly talented; the likeness of the cat to reality is well above average. Condition is excellent. Needs to be nailed more tightly into frame.
Oil on canvas titled on stretcher "Golden Silence", 28" by 21" (33" by 25" in original vintage frame), signed at lower right and again on the stretcher by California plein air artist EUGENE PIERRE FRANQUINET (1875-1940). This is a fine example of the work of this Belgian-born painter who immigrated to the United States in 1907, and who was in Southern California as early as 1911...

Oil on Masonite painting of one of the dramatic red eroded formations in Monument Valley, in far northeastern Arizona. The impressionist work is good enough to be by someone listed but there is no signature. Probably dates to about the early 1950's. Measures 9 1/2" by 11 1/2" (16" by 18" nicely framed, with some wear on the frame that could likely be smoothed out).

Oil on canvas landscape, unframed, 14 1/2" by 21", signed at lower right, titled "Sheep Herds" or similar on reverse, the subject a forest with a vaguely defined figure at right, and equally vaguely defined sheep at center left. The landscape composition is almost semi abstract, reminiscent of Albert Pinkham Ryder...
English circa 1850 landscape oil painting of a castle (the shape suggesting often-painted Windsor Castle) topping a low mountain, two tiny figures in the foreground. The work, 16 1/2" by 22" (19 1/2" by 25" in frame that appears "married" to it, and not that successfully, at that) is very, very grimy. This is a restoration project----to remove the dirt of 150 years, repair several small tears, and varnish the dry surface. There is no signature visible...
