A small watercolor on paper within an oval, featuring a short vase filled with wildflowers, the piece measuring 8" by 7" as framed; at the lower portion in pencil is an inscription in German: "Die Heimat Blumen Grussen Dich", and "Plauen Mai 1920". This translates roughly as "the flowers of home/homeland greet you". "Heimat" evidently is a German word with no clear translation into English...

Marrani". I do not see a listing for this talented artist. The painting has foxing in the background but it is widely and evenly dispersed and is not obtrusive...

A small but nicely executed watercolor painting of the dramatic mountains surrounding Mexico's commercial capital, the city of Monterrey in Nuevo Laredo state in the northeastern part of the country. The work is signed in red at lower right "A. Hoeck" and dated there 1909. The artist was a relative of a Santa Monica, California artist who recently passed away, and this was found among her personal effects...

Watercolor on paper painting of a tree on a bluff by a sandy shore of an estuary or lake, 5 1/2" by 3 1/2" (8 1/2" by 7" in attractive gilt frame), signed at lower left by the noted French 19th century painter, GEORGES BECKER (c. 1845-1909). Becker apparently did not leave behind too many works, but those that have survived leave little doubt as to the talents he possessed...

Framed and matted under glass, a vibrant watercolor featuring workers in the rice fields. Indistinct signature (Jalin 49 or Jalimus ?). Not examined out of frame. The frame measures 16" x 19-1/2".

Watercolor on paper painting of a vase and flowers, 14 3/4" by 11 1/4" (21" by 16 1/2" framed), signed at lower right "L. Hirsch" and dated there 1979. I do not think the artist is listed but he or she has displayed considerable talent in creating this decorative and attractive work. The frame shows a little wear but is presentable overall...

An old watercolor painting titled at lower left "Atitlan Guatemala", signed at lower right by artist "M. Moody". This may be a listed watercolor artist by the name of Marion Moody but that cannot be confirmed. The work is well handled, the old architecture and five foreground figures nicely painted. Lake Atitlan is a famous scenic lake in central Guatemala, ringed by volcanic peaks and popular with tourists to this day. The painting measures 9 3/4" by 13" (13" by 17" framed).

A vintage watercolor by an unknown amateur artist, titled at bottom "Santa Barbara Mission", unframed, measuring 14 1/2" by 11 3/4". The work on old paper would appear to date to maybe the 1930's or early 1940's at latest---think the "Route 66" era of travel in the American West (though this site is not on or near Route 66). It was likely created by or for a tourist. Note the Native Americans at center in the reflecting pool or fountain...

THREE Asian (Chinese, I think, but possibly Korean) watercolor on silk paintings, each 9 1/2" by 11 3/4" (14 1/2" by 18 1/2" in gold framing), contemporary/late 20th century, featuring classic Asian landscapes of dramatic hills and tea houses and pines, making for a very decorative trio for your Asian-inspired interior. A few slight imperfections are present in the frames, but they are very minor. The drawings are in excellent condition.

An English early to mid nineteenth century watercolor, featuring a house or cottage with cross-hatched windows, an arch at left with two small figures nearby, and tree at right. The work is apparently unsigned. The hand is a little stiff and primitive, but the work is antique and charming. Someone spent a considerable sum on the pleasing newish gold frame and hand-drawn "French mat" with lines and glittery goldish foil border...

Beautifully executed watercolor signed at lower left "DAVIES", of a male mallard in flight above a tawny field. Measurements 4 3/8" by 6 7/8" (11 3/8" by 13 1/2" as framed). I see there are a few listed Davies artists but am not sure that this is one of them. If you like wildlife and sporting art or are a member of Ducks Unlimited, you will like this little painting! .

An early (early 20th century) unframed watercolor of the brick buildings of San Francisco's Chinatown, unsigned, 11 1/2" by 7 1/2", from the collection of a longtime San Francisco art dealer. The work includes a number of figures in traditional Chinese clothing, along with the ornamental grillwork of some balconies overlooking the street in these post-Gold Rush buildings. The artist could be any number of listed artists, or perhaps, a talented amateur. There is light foxing in the sky.

Terauchi was born December 9,1891. In 1910 he entered the private school Kiyoteru Kuroda, and later became a member of the Hakuda Association...

An antique drawing in ink and watercolor, 4 1/4" by 6 3/4" inside the mat, 11" by 13 1/4" framed, unsigned, featuring a rolling landscape with stand of trees and tiny figures. At left a full hay wagon is pulled by an animal; at center a couple walks together; at right, three others take a break and chat. This could possibly be an American drawing after an English etching. The materials and framing look American, the scene less so...

Watercolor painting of a harbor, probably Maine, signed at lower right corner by artist M. Matheson and titled in pencil on the reverse, appropriately, "Quiet Harbor" (with original $35.00 price). The work, on heavy watercolor paper, measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2". It having slid down under the mat due to the old tape losing its grip, I removed this from the mat and frame, which are (possibly) available at no extra charge...
