By listed Southern California artist BERTHA TOWNSEND COLER (1865-1948), a large, bulk group of unframed works that came from the liquidation of the contents of a Pacific Palisades home, the owners related to the artist. There were many, many works by the artist at the liquidation (see the framed oils elsewhere in my shop), a number of which I procured. **NOT PRINTS**----A PAIR of fabulous original antique botanical drawings or paintings as they might be described, in watercolor, each 12" by 15 1/2" (and 19" by 25" as identically framed), both bearing old 1958 framing labels from the legendary Goodspeed's Book Shop on Beacon Hill in Boston. These drawings, found in Connecticut, are of the first half of the 19th century...

Old watercolor and gouache painting of pink roses, unsigned, first half of the 20th century, 15 1/2" by 31 1/2" framed. The long and narrow work is very clean and ready for that special wall. Has a very shabby chic feeling.

Ink on tan paper drawing measuring 9 1/2" by 15 1/4", 19 1/4" by 24" framed (no glass presently), titled on backing on a tattered Midtown Gallery, New York (important mid century art gallery there) "Under the Bridge". This is a drawing from under the Oakland Bay Bridge on the San Francisco waterfront, the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County appearing small in the distance. Some of the buildings along the waterfront, such as the iconic Ferry Terminal, are visible...

Watercolor on paper painting, large size at 24" by 29" (33 3/4" by 39" framed), the subject three native American women riding on horseback through a bouldered landscape, the figures highlighted against a dark mountain background, signed in pencil at right by the popular western American artist and art educator GLEN EDWARDS (1942-). Note the fine detail in the figures and horses; the artist himself says that a "good drawing is the basis for a good painting". Edwards grew up in Idaho...

Old (pre 1920, possibly as early as late 19th century) watercolor of coastal rocks, 10" by 14", the frame in which found measuring 18 1/2" by 22", signed at lower right "T. G. Stowers". The work, found in New England, was mounted on an old board years ago. As it was loose in the frame, I have removed it for photography, and will ship it between boards. The old frame has some losses and is available at no extra cost. Research to date has not led to a listed artist name that would correspond...

Old watercolor painting of yellow daffodils in a green vase, 13 3/4" by 13" (19 1/2" by 19" in old, likely original frame), signed at lower right "KAY". There are a number of last names of listed artist by that name, but it would be difficult to point to any particular one as our painter. The work likely dates to about 1930 give or take about ten years. The color scheme and framing, not to mention the pottery vase, really give a feeling of Arts and Crafts...

Watercolor painting of a street and pedestrian promenade on Union Street, in Bath, England, signed by artist Tim Fish. The work is dated December 9,1998 and signed there. Measurements are 7 3/4" by 11 3/4" inside the mat (13" by 17" in simple wood frame). There is presently no glass, but the work is in excellent condition. A nicely executed work by an artist who obviously is familiar with watercolor technique.

Watercolor on paper laid on board painting of roses and hollyhocks in an intimate garden enclosed by a wall or structure, 16 1/4" by 13" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, executed late 19th or early 20th century. The artist's mastery of watercolor is clear, but unfortunately he or she failed to sign the work, which resembles paintings by members of the Stannard family of watercolorists (Henry John Sylvester 1870-1951, Lilian 1877-1944, Theresa 1898-1947)...

A large well executed watercolor by Richard Zoellner, American (1908-2003) of a farm and small village with a church steeple on a bleak winter day. Titled on the back of the watercolor, “Day in January.” Sight size 13 1/2 by 20 inches.

Condition; excellent in gold frame. Minor damage to the frame. Sold

A gouache on paper painting of Valletta, the historic, ancient capital of the Mediterranean island of Malta, 4 3/4" by 6 1/2" (9" by 10 1/2" framed), signed at lower left by the noted artist of Malta, VINCENZO d'ESPOSITO (1886-1946). The city is spread around the bell tower at right center, as a sailing craft plies the middle distance and what appears as a lobster trap is in the foreground...

Watercolor of a drylands or desert landscape, wind blowing a large sparse tree or bush, measurements inside the mat 14" by 20 1/2", 21" by 28" framed, signed faintly at lower left by the listed California watercolor artist ROBERT UECKER (1929-2005). Uecker was born in Los Angeles and won a five year scholarship to the Chouinard Art Institute, where he was instructed by the likes of Rex Brandt, Ed Reep, and Pruett Carter...

Unsigned fine old nineteenth century ink and watercolor drawing of a great tree presiding over a pleasant forested landscape, two tiny figures at right and a small wooden structure at left providing the only evidence of human presence. The watercolor, 14 1/2" by 10 1/2" inside the mat, 24 1/2" by 21" framed, is probably English or continental European, and circa 1860's or thereabouts. The tiny figures are a woman gathering sticks for cooking, and her child...

Watercolor painting of yellow roses on their prickly stems, 11" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 12 3/4" framed), unsigned, circa late 19th century or early 20th. There is an old framer's label on the reverse backing from Boston. Condition is good, mat should be replaced, as well as old-style acidic old sawn wood backing boards. The mat edges did leave browning to mark their presence but that would be hidden completely by a new mat.
