An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicts the most central event in Christianity, the Nativity of our Lord Christ.

The icon is finely hand-painted in bright colors and gold on gesso on a wood panel. It depicts Baby Jesus laying in the cradle in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes, with a Bethlehem star shining from above, flanked by the Virgin Mary and St Joseph.

The upper left part is painted with three kings on horseback traveling in search of Jesus...

A watercolor painting of flowers (perhaps, zinnias) in a vase on a tabletop, painted in an impressionist manner, and signed at lower right by artist "Cara dee" or similar. The work measures 18 3/4" by 14 3/4" as framed. All photos taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass. Condition is excellent.

At first glance most would think this a print, but it is guaranteed to be an original drawing. The work on paper, measuring 22" by 18", and 27" by 23" in contemporary gold framing, is signed at lower left in a flowing signature "Petzoldt", followed by "Mchn. 28" (Munich, 1928). The handwriting of the signature and overall nineteenth century appearance of the drawing suggests this could be 1828, but the paper would definitely appear to be of the 20th century...

Nineteenth century American or European drawing of pink roses, their leaves and prickly stems, unsigned, in an oval shape, 9 3/4" by 7 3/4" (12 3/4" by 10 1/2" as nicely framed). The attention to detail by the artist is exceptional. We could prick our fingertip on the fine thorns. This could be considered a folk art or Victorian piece. It is very fresh and clean, considering the age of the work. Allow for reflections in a few images...

Watercolor on paper painting, each 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (17 1/2" by 14 1/2" in shiny black inexpensive frame), signed in pencil at lower right by the California artist and fashion illustrator ESTHER WYNN, who passed away in 1990 according to recent information acquired from relatives. So far there is no askart listing for this artist but I imagine that will change. She was a talented illustrator, often, of vintage fashion design, and created designs for cards as well...

A fine unframed watercolor on heavy quality watercolor paper, the subject the famed mission bells at the 18th century Mission San Juan Capistrano in Southern California, titled on reverse label "El Campanario", 20 1/2" by 30", signed at lower right corner "R Folk NWS". The artist is ROGER FOLK, a longtime and familiar artist of great talent, active in the Southern California art scene. Folk according to information developed from the net, appears to be in his seventies...

This sweet genre painting of a shepherdess with her flock reflects the theme of the child-of-nature, a sensibility embraced by Victorians during the 19th century. The figure’s youth and comely face convey innocence, while her steadfast pose next to the goldenrod suggests that she is at ease in her environment.

A contemporary impressionist landscape of the hills of Texas in the spring when the famous bluebonnet bloom, signed at lower left by artist "Julienne". This is a work of a talented artist, the signature of whom might well be a take-off on the famous and important Texas bluebonnet artist Julian Onderdonk (1882-1922); conversely, the artist may just happen to be named "Julienne"...

Oil on canvas classic western landscape in early autumn, 22" by 28", unframed, signed at lower right in red "Claudine Morrow". This is a poetic scene, likely New Mexico's Taos Mountain in the distance including two horses, poplars, a shallow deep blue river, and wind shredded clouds over the high west. The artist, born in 1931, is listed in the comprehensive Contemporary Western Artists by Samuels. Her biography there says she was born in Kansas and moved to Arizona...

A rare and signed portrait miniature by Charles Byrne. Done in an almost impressionistic style, the sitter is a blue-eyed woman simply presented in a white gown with fur trimming along the top edge. She is posed against a gauzy white background with blue tints to complement her eyes.

The miniature has a sight size of 2 1/2" by 2" and is in excellent condition...
