Colorful, interesting watercolor with a modernist, almost Expressionist feeling, unsigned, 16" by 12" (23" by 17" in present frame). There is a label on the backing from the Fenway Art Center in Boston, which was run by two listed artists, Richard and Giragos Der Garabedian, leading me to believe that this could have been work by one of them, even though the style/subject does not fit with their known works...

Foussa Itaya was born in 1919 in Foukouoka, Japan and finished his studies at the school of Beaux Arts in Japan. He has exhibited at the Salon Nikakai and in 1953 went to Paris to exihibit his works. In 1955 he exhibited at the Drouant-David Gallery, and many of his works are on exhibit at the Israel Museum, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Japanese Embassy in Paris, and in Switzerland as well.
