Abstract Figures by Nathan Motley, heavy abstract impasto figures. Framed Oil on Panel. Motley is an outsider artist of Richmond, Virginia.
In the style of popular Thomas Kinkade or Marty Bell, this is an original oil on canvas, 11" by 14" (17" by 20" framed), the subject a cozy cottage-like house set in a flowering garden, the welcoming lights all on. The painting is signed at lower left "N LaFond". If you enjoy the Kinkade style but would like an original work instead of a print, you may well like this piece. Condition is excellent, frame has a little wear.
A contemporary oil on canvasboard painting, 16" by 20", 19 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed, the subject an intimate little harbor no doubt in coastal Maine, with a lobsterman's shack and traps stacked on the deck, and his trap-identifying floats hanging on the side of the structure. The talented amateur artist "Paula" signed at lower right and dated the work '98. The work has accumulated a little light soiling and two small abraded areas, as shown.
Watercolor on quality watercolor heavy paper, 14 3/4" by 20" (18 3/4" by 24" as framed), the scenes a tropical street with historic old wood houses, likely Key West, Florida, and another street scene with a lone figure, signed in pencil at lower right something like "Meish...." or "Weish....."; I cannot decipher the name. The aritist probably created this in the 1960's or 1970's, and he or she was skilled with watercolor. The brush strokes are brisk but expertly placed. Condition is excellent...

Oil on canvas, 17" x 27" unframed, 22.75" x 32.75" framed
George W. Waters was born on March 31, 1832 in the small upstate community of Coventry in Chenango County, NY. He began his artistic career early and in 1850, at the age of eighteen, Waters had his first exhibit when one of his paintings was on view at the National Academy of Design in New York City...
By the noted illustrator artist RICHARD STINE (1941-) this is a rarely seen original painting, the subject a tree in a strangely empty landscape. The work, measuring 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" in wood strip frame, is painted in gouache, either on the smooth side of a masonite panel, or on heavy paper or board subsequently laid to the masonite. The artist signed at lower right and again on reverse, with his Summerland, CA (adjacent to Santa Barbara) address...
By a National Academician and painting companion of Emil Kosa, here is a large watercolor (21" by 26 1/2"-----28" by 34" as framed) painting of an old style Southern California large wood dwelling structure, signed at lower right by noted artist GEORGE GIBSON (1904-2001). The old house with straggling palm outside certainly resembles some of the picturesque old structures near downtown Los Angeles that were so often the subject of Kosa's works...
A PAIR of oil on canvas works, each 14" by 10", unframed, featuring hanging wild birds against a simulated wood-grain background, painted in the then-popular realistic trompe l'oeil manner of painters like William Harnett in America, or Michelangelo Meucci (1840-1909) in Italy. The paintings likely date to about the 1880's. They are signed but despite my best efforts, I have been unable to make out the worn and faint signature. An image of that area is provided...
A fine miniature portrait by Jeremiah Meyer, painted in watercolor on organic wafer. The sitter, an attractive woman with long brown hair, is simply presented in a teal gown, with no jewelry or other distractions from her natural beauty.
The painting has no cracks, chips, bowing, or restoration. The brass case is in fine condition with an unimportant dent in the back. The overall size is 1 7/8" by 1 5/8"...
A very old, very well executed detailed antique painting of currants, grapes, raspberries and plums on a platter, apparently unsigned, measuring 11" by 12 1/4" (17 1/2" by 19 1/2" in an older, attractive frame). The oil on canvas is laid down on Masonite. It is difficult to determine the exact age, but early 19th century or even earlier would not be unreasonable...
Oil on canvas, 30" by 25" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, the subject two ladies and a cradled baby, in a traditional European interior of the nineteenth century. Due to the stretcher and canvas weave, I believe this is actually a work by an American artist, who skillfully copied a master work from Europe (probably Italian, or, Tyrol area/South German?)...
Bio: Ernesto Alcántara (1933 - 2019) created a vast body of work along many themes: volcanoes, the Sierra Gorda, seascapes, landscapes, nudes, still life works, travel sketches, political satire, fairy tales drawn for his daughter, characters, with Sor Juana, Don Quixote, and Rembrandt being predominant.
His techniques include oil on linen, prepared by him in his studio with rabbit glue, linseed oil, and tempera; engravings on copper or zinc using burin, dry point, etching, or soft ground;...
Circa 1880 American Victorian Eastlake style wood frame with gold fillet, the entire frame 15 3/4" by 17 3/4", the rabbet 10" by 12". The wood used is walnut, I believe. There are a few flaws, as shown, but the frame is sound overall and awaits your favorite 19th century print or drawing. Presently the frame houses a black and white photo of a popular gelateria of mid 20th century Rome, near the Piazza Navona...
Original oil painting on canvas of the Italian coast by Willem Welters (Dutch, worked in Italy, 1881-1972). One of two paintings by this artist currently available
Oil on canvas painting, unframed, 24" by 18", titled on stretcher in artist's hand "TAKING IN THE SIGHTS ON ROMANTIC CHURCH STREET, CHARLESTON", and signed at lower left by the late San Diego county artist and poet NATALIE REED. Reed was a familiar name in the arts community in the San Diego area, creating paintings and sculptures and even murals in large scale for public buildings, including a work for the Federal Building in downtown San Francisco...
A miniature portrait, painted in watercolor on organic wafer, depicting a gentleman with powdered hair, a deep blue jacket, and a white shirt and tie.
The miniature is housed in a period, heavy gilt bronze frame which in and of itself has a good amount of intrinsic value.. Neither the painting nor the frame have any condition issues. Sight size is 2 1/8" by 1 5/8", with a frame size of 5 5/8" by 3 1/4".
Original artwork for cream of wheat or either white rose tea, by N.Lockwood, American Artist circa 1940, gouache Watercolor measuring 14 x 17“ original frame 18 x 22“
