I do not see a listing for an artist by this name but obviously, he was talented, seeing as that he captured so beautifully the horses-- a notoriously difficult subject to paint well. The work reminds a bit of that of listed California artists Bill Bender and James Colt...

A c1800 miniature, reasonably attributed to George Place. The silver shoulder belt plate indicates that the sitter was an officer in the 54th (West Norfolk) Regiment of Foot, c.1800 - 1810. The single epaulette on the right at this period shows he was an Ensign, Lieutenant, or Captain. The framed size of this piece, in its later frame with fabric backing, is 2 5/8" by 2 1/8"...

A floral still life painting on pebbled paper, 14 1/2" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, 19" by 15" as nicely framed (no glass). The work bears signature "Montezin" at lower left but I have researched the piece and it is not by the noted French artist. It is offered solely on its decorative qualities. There are light folds in the paper at top but they are not really a concern.

A total of FOUR watercolor paintings, framed as pairs, in two frames, each watercolor 10" by 4 7/8", each frame 17 3/4" by 17 3/4". All of the watercolors are signed at lower left with initials "FD". Judging from the scenes, these are likely Northern European and of late nineteenth century date. Condition is excellent, one frame has a little nick at top right. Some research may help determine the identity of the artist.

A large oil on canvas (26 1/2" by 38 1/2", and 32 1/2" by 44 1/4" framed) painting of a forest of evergreen and birch near a picturesque winding creek, likely in eastern Europe, signed at lower left somewhat indecipherably (probably a listed artist). The name may be Lithuanian or other Baltic state. The work is beautifully painted but has darkened with surface soiling and old varnish...

This is a nicely crafted work of an overly ardent suitor chasing his classically dressed prey in an overgrown garden setting. The artist is not well known but he is listed and was apparently known in Chicago and the Midwest as a muralist...

A fine miniature portrait painting, strongly attributed to Samuel Broadbent. The sitter is reputedly Michael Butler, founder of the Union News Company. The attribution is based on the heavy coloring used in the sitter's face, the positioning in the painting of the sitter, the background technique, and the similarity to the example in the Manney collection.

The painting is in excellent condition, with no cracks, bowing, or restoration...
