I believe the type of painting might well be called "hard edge", there being sharp delineations between strips of color. This is a large and decorative work that will enhance any modern or mid century interior. The painting needs a simple cleaning, as over the years it has acquired some superficial brownish drips and soiling...

Both works are signed with initials "CA" at bottom right. I confirmed with a Swiss auction house that they are not by Swiss artist Cuno Amiet, therefore they are offered as-is, unattributed. Most likely, they are of American origin...

A **PAIR** of watercolor on paper paintings of tropical South Florida landscapes, each 15 1/4" by 19 1/4" (one unframed, the other measuring 21 1/4" by 25 1/4"), both signed by Wisconsin-born artist RACHEL STEARNS (1895-1979). Stearns spent much of her life in Chicago where she received art education, some with Frederic Grant. Evidently she spent a lot of time in Florida, as a number of watercolor works featuring scenes from that state are known...

Oil on canvas painting of what appear to be roses or possibly peonies in a vase on a tabletop, signed with initials at extreme lower right, and measuring 15" by 12 1/2" (19 1/2" by 17" framed). At first glance this appears to be a fine old vintage work of the 19th century or even earlier, but closer inspection reveals that this is actually a late 20th century work painted in that earlier style, including the detailed drops of water on the leaves...

This splendid oil on board renders a charming cape cod house overlooking the ocean. There is a road passing to its front. It is all too serene and peaceful. Given the calmness of the waves, speculate that the ocean is the Pacific. It is signed E Harkins in the lower left. Its simplicity and unpretentiousness reminds me of Edward Hopper's or Andrew Wyeth's work...

A nicely done miniature, on natural wafer, of a gentleman in a black. The reverse of the case is a beautiful example of repousse work, and has an aperture with hairwork within.

The painting is in good condition, with no chips, cracks, or inpainting. The case is in excellent condition and measures 2 1/2" by 2".

An American portrait miniature of a woman with strong features and striking presence. Excellent condition, although the photo came out somewhat blurry. A card with illegible writing was inside the traveling case which measures 4" by 3 1/8" when closed. The sight size is 2 5/8" by 2".

This is a beautiful DOUBLE SIDED watercolor dated 1883 by the hand of listed American 19th century artist BENJAMIN FITZ (1855-1891), measuring 11 1/2" by 18 3/4" plus about 3 1/2" of liner and modern frame. I am not sure as to the authorship of the loose dry landscape on the reverse, which might be later and by a totally unrelated hand...
