There is some mention of the artist on the internet, most specifically as an illustrator in 1915 of a "Black Beauty" type book called "Don: His Recollections", a work about a horse, intended for children...

Oil on linen laid on board, 16 1/4" by 23 1/4", the simple modern frame about 1 1/4" wide, signed at lower right by listed California woman artist M.E. HODGDON, not dated but likely before 1920. The painting recently came out of Maine, where it had possibly resided for decades, perhaps brought east by an early day traveler wanting a souvenir. The artist, MARY E. HODGDON, is said by Hughes in his dictionary of California artists to have been a resident of Los Angeles between 1912 and 1922...

This is a Signed and Dated Portrait by Fr. Schell. The artist trained under Thomas Eakins and his influence can be seen in this portrait. The artist was from Philadelphia and connected with the Philadelphia Fine Arts Museum. It is mounted in a new goldleaf frame and the canvas measures 24 1/2" x 20 1/2". Excellent Condition.

Oil on canvas landscape of a snowy peak towering above lower mountains, a lone figure in a row boat at lower right in the lake, signed at lower right "Wm. Rennison" or similar. The early 20th century work measures 14" by 24" (17 3/4" by 28" in modern-day antique style framing). The work reminds of the Hudson River School. If I am reading the name correctly, I am not able to locate a listed artist by that name...

The work, roughly the size of an index card, is painted in oil on a thin card laid on a thicker card. Meussdorffer was born in San Francisco in 1871, the daughter of a well-known hat maker...

This is a FINE OIL PAINTING of a Barefoot Girl. This is an ANTIQUE OIL on CANVAS circa late 19th Century. Size of this unframed work is 7 5/8" X 10 1/2". Barefoot French Girl... Knitting at her side and a Book on her lap. Condition for this age is Excellent. There is no signature found. BEAUTIFULLY done OIL PAINTING.

Oil on board painting of trees in a landscape, 11" by 9" in narrow original frame, signed at lower right by listed artist "A. KLUG". The painting is executed in a very impressionist hand, and is quite lovely, but is also very dirty. A professional cleaning would really be well worthwhile investment. The frame being old is showing its age, with losses as seen. The artist is listed in Davenport's dictionary of artists but there does not seem to be much information available on him or her.

"Autumn Afternoon, National Arboretum...

This work needs some TLC, due to a large rip, unstable and missing paint, and grime......a vintage late 19th century/early 20th century work on canvas, 18" by 30", unframed, apparently unsigned, the subject one of the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest. The painting should be saved for posterity, but for that to happen, it will require relining, cleaning and inpainting by a professional restorer. If you are a restorer yourself, this would be an ideal acquisition.

A rare prize for the specialist collector of Ohio art, this is an oil on canvas laid on board, the subject an impressionistic sketch of a patch of woodland in greens and browns, 8 5/8" by 11 1/2" plus narrow simple framing, signed in red at lower right "W. M. Darling". Darling is known today as the "Dean of Toledo Artists", a title earned after a lifetime of distinction in painting...
