An ORIGINAL PAINTING on canvas, 20" by 38" (30" by 48" framed), the subject a panoramic view of a quaint coastal cliffside village complete with tidy white church and homes. Signed at lower right by noted native-California artist NICKY BOEHME, the work is not titled, but the scene depicted is the much-loved small town about 150 miles north of San Francisco, Mendocino, in the county by the same name (which is north of Sonoma County)...
Ephreme Kouakou oil 40”x50” triple figures Ephrem Kouakou is one of the world’s foremost African painters. He currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland, and Ivory Coast, West Africa. Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a windswept cypress type tree by the coast dunes, 8 1/2" by 4 1/4" (14 1/2" by 10 1/2" attractively framed). Although unsigned (and Detreville's output frequently WAS unsigned), the handling, subject matter and color palette are strong indicators of the hand of the noted California painter. I have owned and sold other unsigned paintings as being by Detreville, and I will stand by this being one of his works...
Contemporary watercolor painting of whitish or pinkish roses, executed in a soft-focus manner, signed at lower right by artist Jean Percival. I do not see a listing by this name but we're looking at a talented artist. The work measures 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the double mat opening and 21" by 17 1/2" framed. Silvery frame exhibits light wear. There are reflections in some images.
A c1800 miniature, reasonably attributed to George Place. The silver shoulder belt plate indicates that the sitter was an officer in the 54th (West Norfolk) Regiment of Foot, c.1800 - 1810. The single epaulette on the right at this period shows he was an Ensign, Lieutenant, or Captain. The framed size of this piece, in its later frame with fabric backing, is 2 5/8" by 2 1/8"...
The artist returned to Ellis Island to paint the location where he had first entered the United States in 1925. Adolf Konrad was born in Bremen, Germany in 1915; he died in 2003. The family settled in Newark, NJ and young Adolf studied at the Newark School of Fine Arts. He would later become a favorite of the Newark Museum, fondly known as the painter laureate of New Jersey’s largest city. His work was often compared to Edward Hopper’s—in fact, the two shared a New York exhibition in 1962...
Oil on canvas painting, 20" by 24", unframed, the subject the historic old Presidential Palace in Haiti's capital city, Port-au-Prince, signed at lower right "Ysmay". The naive work shows the palace as it looked before the tragic earthquake of January 2010, in which over 200,000 people in the country lost their lives, the infrastructure suffering enormous damage. The palace was wrecked and to my knowledge has not been repaired...
Frantesek Kupka, 1871-1957, Opocno. Bohemia, Czech, and died in France. This stunning early mordernist painting is an early and an
extremely fine example of Kupka's painting. It is approximately 17"H by 13"w in a 4" frame. It is signed clearly lower right and the entire painting and signature under black light looks good with no in painting. Kupka attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Prague at 17 years old and the Beaux Arts in Vienna. He moved to Paris in 1895 and also won the Prix de Rome...
